To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID C. JoHNsoN, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Johnson, in the county of Union and State of New Mexico, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clamps for Vindmills, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to clamps for windmill heads, water troughs and tanks, and consists in the combinations and arrangements of elements hereinafter described and particularly set forth in the accompanying claim.
The invention has for its purpose to provide a device of this character for clamping and plumbing the windmill head on top of the tower whereby the timbers of that portion of the structure may be firmly and rigidly secured, and adjusted to suit existing conditions. The clamp is also serviceable for use in making water troughs and tanks for stock and for various other purposes evident from the construction disclosed herein.
The invention has for its further purpose to produce a device of the character in question which may be readily applied to the usual fixtures or equipment supplied with windmills without in any manner altering the latter or requiring special skill for its application.
Referring to the drawings forming a part of this specification, in which like figures designate like parts in the several views,
Figure 1 illustrates an ordinary windmill with the invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a detailed top plan view of the clamp.
Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of the same, and
Fig. 4 is a detailed perspective view of one of the clamp bars.
Referring to theconstruction in further detail 1, 2, 3 and 4c designate the corner posts of the usual windmill structure and which will be hereinafter referred to as the windmill head or top of tower. Said members 1 to 4 are cut away, as at 5 to receive the usual pipe leading to the pump from the well.
The clamp per 86 comprises four rods or bars 6, 7, 8 and 9 constructed from any suit able metal and preferably of that design shown in Fig. l. Each of said bars has therefore a flat portion 10 and a reduced or shank portion 11 provided with threads 12.
And-at its opposite end said flat portion is apertured to receive the shank portion of its connecting bar. At a point approximately midway of its length the flat portion of the bar is further provided with a second aper- V ture 1 1 to be presently explained.
In assembled relation the several bars are arranged against the opposite and outer faces of the windmill head after the manner disclosed in Figs. 1 and 2, the shank portion of one bar passing through the apertured portion of the next bar and the several bars are then rigidly secured in assembled relation by nuts 15 threaded on said shank portions as shown.
The four elements 1, 2, 3 and 4 are spaced to receive the filling pieces or blocks 16 and 18 which are designed to accommodate the different adjustments of the clamping bars.
It is contemplated to employ one of these clamps at a distance of twenty to thirty inches below the windmill head where the same is adapted to be secured to the usual spider by means of rods 19 or other devices that connect with said spider and pass through the apertures 14.-
This application of the invention is shown by way of illustration in Fig. 1 of the present drawing.
From the foregoing it will be readily ap parent that the windmill head and its appurtenant 'parts may be readily plumbed and rigidly secured. And that the clamp will thereafter easily permit any adjustment necessary.
It is obvious that those skilled in the art may vary the details of construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of my invention, and therefore I do not wish to be limited to such features except as may be required by the claim.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by United States Letters Patent is: y
