OFNEJW roux, Y., A conrona'rlouor nuwauits' To all i07zom' "conemf 7 Be it known that'I, J oHN MQHo'rHERSAL of New York, have" invented a new and use-.-
V 'ful Improvement in Powder-Boxes,of which "the. following is a specification.
. This invention rel'tes to powder. boxes and has more "particularreference t boxes -construeted for packaging talcum, face and other finely pulverized powders.
' The principal obj ect of this invention is the construction of a lock. 'sea'mbox,of the character described which. when provided with a tight slip QQver will close thebox at the cover and body joint in such fashion as. to efiectuallyjprevent seepage out of any powder down between the abutting folds ofthe seam and between 'thebodyand the folded edges are brought inabutment, by reason of which fact it has been found prior to my invention to be impossible or at least impracticable to eliminate entirely any recess at the seam, and if any recess .be present. the finely ground talcum or facepowder see s out in transit between thec'ov'er and b y down through the recess inthe seam.
An'object of this invention therefore is.
' the elimination of or at least material reduction' of any seepage of the powder down such recess. e
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent as it is better understood from thefollowing description body;
when considered in connection with the accompanying drawing illustrating a preferred embodiment thereof." On the drawing,
Figure 1.is a s1de elevation of a powder box embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is a partial view'of the same'showin the cover lifted %ig. 3 is a section through the top of the Fig. is a section. on the line 4-4; of

It is" also folded upon the lines. 19 and 21 to bring the' hook portion into alinement with the I outer face .of the blank. When thus arranged the hook 15 is inserted within the hook 18 and the parts compressed, as shown in Fig. .5, the tongue 11 extending beyond and over back of the other edge 16.
tongue is disposed substantially in the. outer face of the surrounding material. A de 'pres'sion22 .is formedin the seam back of the tongue to close the 'open'space provided in the hook 15 through the provision of the tongue 11.. This arrangement eliminates or interrupts therecess 23 seen best in Fig 5 at a point between the cover and body. he tongue ll'as may be-seen fromFigt2 is .95 l

Itis thought that the invention and many .of its attendant advantages will be under-.
stood from the foregoin'g'description, and it will be apparent that various changes may 7 ing a bead near its open end to limit closing movement of a slipcover, said body being formed of a sheet having its edges secured together in a lock seam, said lockseam being interrupted to provide overlapping parts to prevent seeping out of the powder at and near the bead.
3. A powder box comprising a body having a side lock seam and formed of continuously curving walls provided with a bead near the open end of the box, one of the edges interlocked in said seam having a. part extending out of the seam and. over across the seam to beyond the edge inferlocked therewith.
4. A powder box comprising a continuously curved bod having a locked side seam and provided with a bead for limiting move ment of a cover, and means comprising a. lap formed on one seamelement for preventing powder seeping down the outside of said seam and out of the box.
. 5. A powder box comprising a body having a locked side seam and provided with a slip cover, the lock portion of said side seam being interrupted and formed with a lap and being engaged by the slip cover, to prevent the powder seeping along the seam and between the cover and body and out of. the box.
