One advantage of a can made in this way is that the neck has an opening of the full diameter of the can and which is free from any shoulders which interfere in any way with draining the contents of the can when the latter is emptied.
Cans of this type are frequently used for packaging paint and it is a common practice for a painter to use the paint directly from the can.
A paint can embodying my inventionhas the further advantage that it is entirely free from cover-receiving grooves which become lled with paint during the operation of wiping the brush on the top edge of the can.
A paint can with a seamless neck embodying my invention has a full width opening and will thus accommodate a. larger brush than a can of the same size but having the construction now commonly found in paint cans.
v I claim:
A can having a body section and a seamless neck section forming an extension of the body section and adding to the capacity of the can, the material forming the side walls of the neck section belng bent back on itself with the two plies in contact with each other, said two-ply portion of the neck section fitting into the upper portion of the body section, and said neck section and body section being secured together by two outwardly-extending contacting seaming flanges, one on the neck section and the other on the body section, which are rolled together to produce a double lock seam on the exterior of the cam, the lower end of the neck section and the portion of the body section immediately below the neck section having the same diameter and forming together a chuckengaging surface for engagement with a chuck during the rolling of the seaming anges to form the double lock seam.
