Be it known that 1", CHARLES. A- G a rat, a citizen of the United States, and resident: of the city of Providence, in the county of Providence and'State of, Rhode Island; have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Chain-Connectors, ofjwhich the following is a specification.
This invention relates to connectors for joining together the ends of chains suchas neck chains or other chains for personal wear, and the object of this invention isto provide such aconnector compris ng two members one slidable within the other, one.
of said members having a slot in its edge for the reception of one of the end links of the chain, and the other member having a portion adapted to close or open the mouth of said slot by a relative sliding movement of the parts. By this construction the greater the tension on the chain the more securely is the connector locked;
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the, drawings, 10 designates the body member of my improved connector which is constructed preferably of a short length of tubing having its walls pressed nearly together, as illustrated in Fig. 3, forming two longitudinal channels 11 and 12 in opposite edges thereof. One of the side edges near one end of this body is provided with a slot 13 into which the end link of the chain is adapted to be passed. This slot is undercut slightly as at 14, to receive the bend of the end link 23 of the chain, illustrated in dotted lines in Fig. 1, when pressure is being brought thereagainst to open the connector.

By attaching one end of the chain to the end of the keeper opposite its closing end and the opposite end of the chain in the body of the connector, greater the tension on the chain the more securely is the keeper held in closed position. Then again by my improved construction the keeper member may be slid to open position by pressure being brought to bear on the two end links 23 and 24: of the chain, thereby sliding the keeper in its body it will be seen that the bility of the connector being accidentally.

I have described the keeper member of the connector as formed of wire and adapted to slide in longitudinal channels in the body portion, but the keeper member 26, illustrated in Fig. 4, may be formed of sheet stock and mounted to slide in a corresponding slot in a body member 27 also formed of sheet stock if desired. The foregoing description is directed solely toward the constructions illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A chain connector comprising a channeled body member having a link-receiving slot in its edge, a keeper slidably mounted in said channel having an eye at one end and an edge link-receiving opening adjacent its opposite end, said edge opening being adapted to register with the slot in said body, and said keeper being provided with a longitudinally disposed arm adjacent its edge opening adapted to enter the channel in said ody member and close its edge opening when said member is moved to its outward position. sleeve like body member slidably mounted on both of said arms and having a slot in its edge adapted to register with the opening in said loop whereby the opening in both member and keeper may be opened or closed by a relative movement of these parts the opposite side walls of said sleeve member being set inward to form a stop to limit its endwise sliding movement.
