Description

ERNEST A. KINdor PHILADELPHIA, PENNsifIvANIA, AssIeNon'ro IInNitvnIs/sioN -'&` soNs;:INooItPonAlrnmon PHILADELPHIA, rnNNsfIzfIfvANrA.; 1A coNIzoRn'rIoNrer PENNSYLVANIA;
Specication of Letters Patent.
` ruins.
Patented Nov. 1e, 1917.
` Application sied Nay 2, 191'?.` seria1No.1e5,92e.
ToiaZZ whom t may concern i Be it known that I, ERNfEsTAIINe, a
citizen of ythe United States, lresiding in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have Ainvented certain Improvements in Plumbs, of which the following isa specification;
My invention relates tocertain improvements in plumbs used in connection with a Fig.4 2 is an edge view of the plumb, partly j j in section; Y
level and is a companion application to one iled even date herewithrelating to improvements in levels, Ser.' No. 165,927V
' One object of my present invention, is to provide means for adjusting the ,frame carrying ltheglass tube in which the bubble is located.` Y i A further object ofthe invention is to make a double plumb, one vframe carrying one tube and another frame carrying the other 'tubeV j j A j In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a side Fig. 3 is a sectional view of.` a portion` of the yplumb illustrating the two frames; and
"Fig. 4 is a detached perspective view of one of the'frames. v f
Referring to, the drawings, 1 is the `body `portion having `an opening 2, closed by glazed frames 3 at each side. Pivotally mounted in the opening 2 are segmental frames Land 5 pivoted respectively at v6 and 7, -the two frames resting on alshoulder formed on the f body i portion, as clearly 'shown in Fig; 2. "Each of the two glazed frames is constructed of two members havinga glass disk between them. One of the members has a flangeadapted to be secured to they body of thev plumb, A j a Carried bythe segmentalfframe 4' is a tubeS andjcarried by the segmental frame H. .5.is a tube; 9, each having a bubble therein.l
These two frames' can be independently,ad-
justed so that the bubble can beproperly centered. The adjusting means in the pres-5 ent instance consists of a screwlO having` a head 11i The screw extends into a view `of my improved V*in the present instance, is clamped between a washer 12 `and a clamp plate 13V in-a recess 14V in the edge of the body of the plumb.
Screws 15 are used to clamp the, plate 13 firmly on thehead of the screw 10 and thus hold it inthe position -to which it is 'ad-4 justed The head 11 of the screwy extends through van opening in the plate, the walls of which are beveled or curvedl to conform to the head ofthe screw. By this means the screw can `be turned to adjust the frames parts. All that is necessary is to move the body portion.
It will be noticed that the fork onone side fof each ofthe frames I and 5`is longerthan i )the other. vThis allows for the forming of a threaded opening in the fork to receive the adjusting screw.
From the above description, it will be seen thatv I make a very simple form of Vplumb vof the type using a glass in which there isy a bubble. The plumb cany be adjusted'without dismantling the parts and .carrying the tubes without dismantling the Y the Vbubble can be seen from every side through the glazed frames. Y
By making the plumb `wlth the frames, as shown, it can bcused either end up so that it is very convenient, particularly where j a long line is to be plumbed.
` I claim:
V1.' I The combination in' a plumb, of aloody `portion having ay circular opening therein recessed at leach side; two opposed, segy-mental frames arranged in said opening band in the same plane and having projections adapted to the recesses; pivots: extending through the, projections into the iframe;` a
tube'in each frameinV which a bubble is adjusting each frame on its pivot.
located; and independent means for laterallv having an opening therein two segmental l Y frames; a pivot` lfor* each frame; thetwo the plumb and the other screw extending to frames being so located in the opening in the opposite edge; and rmea-ns for'lioldi'ng Y the body portionas tofform a cylindrical eachV screw in the position :to which it is 10 opening; aglarsstubeiinounted ineach frame' tmijnStedv Y; Y'
5 and 'extending crossV the'openiiigg formed Witness Wheredi` I'aiix myfsi'gnature. f lby the frames; an adjusting srew lfor' each 1 4 4 V frame, one screw extending toone edge of Y ERNEST A. KING.
