FIG.3.I
gw'ua-nkoz 25.23475 anion 'renecr 'MADUB/A, or CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
ASH-SIFTING CABINET.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented NOV. 13, 1917- Application filed April 11, 1917. Serial No. 161,216.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TGNAGY MADURA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago. in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ash-sifting Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in ash sifting cabinets.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a cabinet adapted for household use for the purpose of sifting ashes without allowing the escape of dirt and dust therefrom, the same presenting a neat appearance and possessing great strength and durability.
A further object of the device is the provision of a screening or grading device readily adaptable for the sifting of ashes and having but few parts which may be readily cleaned when desired and a manually operating agitator for the articles operated upon.
In the drawing forming a part of this application and in which like numerals refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device partially broken away.
Fig. 2 is a central vertical sectional view thereof taken upon line IIIIII of Fig. 2.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line IIIIII, Fig. 1.
Figs. 4 and 5 are enlarged detail sectional views of one of the adjustable mounting means for the agitator.
The present device broadly consists of an upright cabinet or casing 10 supported upon legs 11 and having a hinged top or lid 12 while a foraminous member or screen 13 is positioned in curved arrangement in the upper portion of the cabinet slanting forwardly toward an outlet trough 14. while a receiving receptacle or drawer 15 is slidably removably carried in the bottom portion of the cabinet.
An agitator 16 in the form of a plate arcuate in transverse section is rockingly or shiftably suspended slidably above the screen 13, although being in substantial con tact therewith by means of arms 17 pivoted as at 18 to the front and rear sides of the cabinet 10 above the screen 13. Upright posts 19 are centrally carried by the opposite ends of the agitator 16 extending within the bottom sockets 20 in the arms 17 and re-. tained therein by means of pins Qlcarrie'd by the posts 19 sliding within slots 22 of the arms while springs 23 are tensioned between the posts 19 and the upper ends of the sockets 20 normally maintaining the agitator l6 depressed in its operative position.
An arcuate slot 24 is provided for the front wall of the cabinet 10 above the outlet spout 14 while an operating handle 25 is connected to the forward arm 17 by means of a connecting pin 26 so that the manually shifting of the handle 25 moves the agitator 16 back and forth over the concaved surface of the screen 13 for disturbing any material deposited thereon which precipitates the finer portions thereof through the screen 13 into the drawer 15 while the coarser particles travel down the screen to the outlet opening 27 in the front of the cabinet thence outwardly through the trough 14. A hook 28 is arranged upon the forward end of the trough for receiving a receptacle such as a bucket thereon for holding the cinders and coal delivered from the screen. The lid 12 is adapted to be opened by means of a knob 29 adjacent the forward edge thereof while positioning brackets 30 are arranged at the rear end of the cabinet for maintaining the lid in its open position. A removable hopper and positioning plate 31 is removably arranged above the screen 13 within the cabinet in an inclined position for directing the material onto the screen, the said plate being removably attached to the forward side of the cabinet 10 as at 32. A serviceable cabinet is provided within which ashes are readily placed and are easily sifted manually by moving the handle 25, the coal and cinders being thereby separated and passing through the trough 14 to a point of access exteriorly of the cabinet. The plate 31 assists in maintaining the ashes in the upper portion of the screen 13 until they have been partially agitated and sifted and assisting to prevent the contents of the screen from passing through the outlet 27 before being properly operated upon in the separatlng operation.
What I claim as new is A sifting device, including a cabinet, an inclined arcuate fora'minous member fixed therein, an inclined baffling member positioned above the arcuate foraminous member, the bottom edge of the baffling member being positioned with respect to the curvature of said foraminous member to provide a clearance-passage between said foraminous member and the bafliing member for the contents of the cabinet as said contents are agitated and relieved of the refuse or ash, an arcuate agitator positioned to engage and efiect the sitting of said contents through the foraminous member as said agitator is operated, said agitator having extending centrally therefrom arms received in vertical sockets in pivoted suspending members and said arms having transverse pins, the pro ect1ng ends of one pm being guided 1n vertlcal slots of sand suspending members,
one of said suspending members being provided with actuating means guided in an arcuate slot in a wall of the cabinet.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature.
