To all whom it may concern:
My present invention relates to improve-Q. ments in concrete mixers, and relates more' particularly to that type of mixer known as 7 the continuous batch mixer, one object of the invention being the provision of a device of this character in which the mixing drum is so constructed as to insure of the thorough commingling of the conglomerate, so that the same will be thoroughly mixed in the shortest possible time, and also inwhich the dry conglomerate may be mixed separately from the wet conglomerate.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a mixer of this type having two compartments, one of which is adapted to receive the dry ingredients, and the other compartment of which is adapted to receive the mixed dry ingredients and there commingle the same thoroughly with water, there being provided a novel arrangement of communicating valves or doors between the two compartments so that the exchange may take place while the drumis being rotated.
With the foregoing and other objects in view and which will appear as the description proceeds, the present invention resides in the novel arrangement and combination of parts, as wlll presently appear, changes of construction being possible, however, and I being only limited by what is claimed. In the accompanying drawings:- Figure "1 is a vertical central sectional view through the complete drum, the doors between the two compartments beingclosed.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 10 designates the drum which is divided centrally by the annular partition 11 in to the dry mix chamber 12 and the wet mix chamber 13, said partition 11 being provided with the cone-shaped central portion 14 havispecification of Letters Patent. Carried by the drum in the chamber 12, adjacent each of the respective openings 17,
is a blade or paddle 20 which when the doors" are, opened,'and the drum is being rotated, has'a normal tendency to guide the dry mix through said openings into the chamber 13.v
The other paddles or blades-21 also connected to the interior of the drum or the chamber 12 are disposed to thoroughly commingle 'the dry mix and move the same toward the partition 11. v
The head 22 of the drum 10 is provided with the operating gear 23, by means of which the drum may be rotated, and with the inlet opening 24, in which projects the spout 25 of the dry mix-directing hopper 26.
The drum 10 is further provided with the circumferential rail 27 which cooperates with surrounding pulleys 28 mounted in a frame 29 to properly supportthe drum 10' for rotation.
Mounted within the chamber 13 and connected to the interior of the drum are the mixing blades 30, while mounted also there-v v in are the elevating discharge paddles 31, the end disk' 32 being provided with the outlet opening 33, while pivotally connected to the frame 34 is the discharge spout 35 for the wet mixed conglomerate.
In order that the doors 18 maybe moved I from closed to open position,- andvthus permit of the introduction duringthe rotation of the drum 10 of the dry mix: from the chamber 12 into the chamber 13, there is disposed fixedly to the disk 11 the sleeve 36, through which the shaft 16 slides, the said shaft 16 having connected to its inner end a collar 37 which is connected by the arms or rods 38 to the doors 18 at 39, the brace rods '40 being connected to the fixed collar or sleeve 36 and'pivotally connected at 41 to the respective rods 38.
By this means, as the shaft 16 is moved from the position in Fig. 1 to that shown in Fig. 2, all of the doors 18 are simultae neously moved from closed to open position, the opposite movement of the shaft 16 closing the doors.
The shaft 16 is operable from the exterior of the drum 10 as said shaft is adapted to be projected through the opening 24, so that the same may be readily actuated during the rotation of the drum.
What I claim as new is:'
A concrete mixer comprising a drum having an inlet and an outlet, a central partition within said drum dividing the same into two chambers, said partition having a concentric material guide of conical form and provided with openings about the periphery of said material guide to receive the material therefrom and forming communicating means between the chambers, a door for each opening connected to the partitlon, means for operating sald doors, a shaft slidably mounted in the frusto-conical portion of the partition, and means connecting said shaft with the doors, whereby sliding movement imparted to the shaft will simultaneously open and close all doors, and a directing paddle connected to the periphery of the drum within one of the chambers and adjacent each opening, whereby the rotation of the'drum when the doors are opened will automatically direct the conglomerate through the openings into the next chamber.
