UNITED STATES PATENT orrron.
WILLIAM JAMIES ON, OF TEBBE HAUTE, INDIANA;
TABLE.
Application filed March 16, 1917. Serial No. 155,287.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM JAMIEsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Terre Haute, in the county of Vigo and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Table, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in self-Waiting tables, the object of which is to provide a table of this type which will permit the rotatable portion to revolve with greater ease.
A further object is to provide means whereby the rotatable portion may be easily adjusted.
A further object is to provide a table of the type mentioned which may be used either as a dining table or for library use.
A still further object is to provide means to prevent articles, which are being used, from coming in contact with the rotatable portion of the table.
A still further object is to construct such a table which is simple in its construction and comparatively inexpensive.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the inrention.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view;
Fig. 2 is a plan.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4; is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
In the drawings forming part of this application I have shown a hollow standard 1 provided with a base 2 formed with outwardly and downwardly sloping legs 3; a top body portion 4 and rods or braces 5 which are secured to base members 6 of the table.
These base members are provided with cut out portions 7 in which rollers 8 are mounted on shafts 9 which are slid into grooves 10.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. e, 1917.
An adjusting rod 12 extends the entire length of the standard 1 and base members 6 and is provided at its upper end with screw threads 13. The extreme upper end of this ad usting rod extends into a depression 1e which is centrally located in the ,bottom of the rotatable portion 15 of the to be lowered. By this means the frictional.
contact of the rotatable part with the rollers is diminished or increased.
Attached to the bottom of the rotatable portion 15, and directly in alinement with the rollers 8, is a circular strip of metal 19, the function of which is to serve as a track for the rollers.
In order to guard against an article resting on the stationary portion of the table, from coming in contact with the rotatable portion 15, a circular strip 21 of metal or other material is attached to the inner surface of the stationary portion 20 and extends any desired distance from the top surface of the table.
Resting on top approximately in the center of the rotatable portion 15 is a stand 22 provided with a base 23 and openings 24:. These openings are adapted to receive the shanks 25 of the leaves or partitions 26.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. A table, comprising a standard, supporting legs extending from the standard, a table top carried by the standard, said top provided with an aperture, a rotatable member seated in the aperture, a shaft passing through the standard and pivotally engaging the rotatable member, jam nuts threaded on the shaft to retain the same in set position, and an exposed head on the shaft to permit the same to be turned to adjust the rotatable member.
2. A table, comprising a standard, braces rising from the standard, base members carried by the braces, a table top IBStHl on the base members, said top provided with a central aperture, a revoluble member in the aperture, a shaft passing through the .1 shaft for rotating the same to adjust the standard and the base members and pivotally engaging the rotatable member, jam nuts threaded on the shaft above and below the base members, an exposed head on the as my own, I llilYB hereto affixed. my s1gnutore m the presence of two wltnesses.
