Description

N ED S AT S O E znnsmno summ t, on ms enemns'fqenmoema.
rnocnss r01 THE r3onudr1o1i or a v To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, Zurisnmo SUZUKI, 'a j. Sub ectof theEmpei-or of Japan, residing at Les Angeles, in the county of LosAngeles and State of, G lifornia, have invented a new and useful; rocess for the Production of'a Dyestufi, of jvhich the following is a specification.v
' My invention relates to the process of .the production of a dye-stud, the main ob ject of the invention being to provide an" inexpensive process of produc ng a sulfurcon' ainingdye-stuif of a dark brown color,
utilizing tobacco stems, which were lef t'as Waste formerly.
In carrying out my invention I firsttalie tobacco stems, add suitable :caustic alkali to the tobacco stems, and then boil said 1 alkali liquid of an'organic chemical nature 'is obtained.
To said alkali liquid I nextadd' one pound of sodium sulfid and ten ounces of sulfur.
- drogen has been evolved;
' obtained.

and continue stirring the Well all the while. Then atfir'st. a. vapor a arises, sulfureted hydrogen gas following- -it,' and there, is left a strong jiviscous lump or; mass in the-boiler. I continue to heat sald substance, and will bythisreduc'e the mass to a. dry 'mass',"which may be reduced to a powder and is a new, and-usefulsulfurcontaining tlyt'e-stufi'.
lnorder to get a diE'erentd egree color I may addat the beginning of-the process to said tobacco stems, either rice straw. or
wheat straw'; and then through the same steps 'as described above such desired purpose will be accomplished.
The dyestufi I have obtained is" to be used for' dyeing cotton yarns and cotton goods as ordinary sulfid dye-stulf is used.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is: 1. The method of making'asulfur-containii'ig dye consisting essentially in heating tobacco stems. with 'water and caustic alkali, adding sulfur and sodium sulfid andcontinuing the heating. until sull iurete'd hy- 2. The method of making a sulfur-containing. dye consisting essentially in heat-' ingtobacco stems with water and. caustic alkali, adding sulfur continuing the heating until a dry -mass 1s 'ZENSHIRO (SUZUKI;
