and useful Improvements in Envelop-Sealing Tools, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has reference to improvements in sealing devices and more particularly to envelop sealing devices in the form of a tool. 7
.The objects generally of the invention are to produce a device of this character, which, although extremely simple and neat in construction, is more convenient to operate and otherwise more efficient than devices of this character heretofore produced.
The invention consists in such novel features of construction, operation and combination of parts as shall hereinafter be described and pointed out in the claims.
. Referring to the drawings Figure 1 is a plan view of a device embodying my invention and showing a portion of an envelop about to be sealed thereby.

The sealing device shown in the drawings is provided with the cylindrical tank 10 having portions of its surface suitably knurled. Said tank consists of the tube 11 having one end closed and its other end countersunk into the transverse plate 12 having the opening 13 adapted to be closed "Specification of Letters Patent.

Presser-foot. The moistening pad 31 is held on said support 29 by bending the longitudi nal edges of the latter upwardly at right angles, bending the front end thereof over on to the forward end of said pad to form a pocket 33 and the rear end of said pad 'in the plate 12.. The outlet end 38 of said passage extends slightly above the clip 35.
To operate the device, the tank or handle 10 is grasped by the hand .of the user and the inclined end 25 of the presser-foot '27 is pushed against the flap mof the envelop 6 near one corner of the latter. edge of the flap a, in contact with the inclined end 25 will ride down on the latter and thereby be forced down onto the moistening pad. The device is then moved straight across the envelop in a direction parallel to the longitudinal edges thereofn (Fig. 5.) As the device is thus moved across theenvelop, the presser-foot will press the moistened part of the flap down onto the envelop and at the same time hold the part of the envelop above the moistening pad in contact with the latter. It is to be noted that as the device is being moved the length of the flap of the envelop, the inclined inner edge of the forward end 25 of the presser-foot will tend to force the flap toward the opposite edge of the envelop, thereby smoothly laying and sealing the flap onto the envelop. The shape of the forward end 25 is an important feature of the present invention.
The pivoting of the presser-foot allows the same to adjust itself to the surface of the envelop.
The top surface of the moistening pad 31 ismade convex by the convex surface of the (Fig. 1.) The v support 29, so that a comparatively wide portion of the moistening pad contacts with the flap.
The extending of the outlet end of the passage 37 slightly above the clip 35, provides an air vent which has been found in practice, to cause a more even flow of the moisture to the pad than when said outlet is completely closed b the pad.
The sustaining of the pad in the manner described, allows. for the easy removal thereof.
It is to be noted that my device seals the envelop by simply a single horizontal movement thereof, and that it is not necessary to tip the device during its operation.
An important feature of the invention is the fact that the moistening pad and presserfoot are so separated that there is no danger of moisture from the pad getting on the havinga flat under surface and a straight inner edge, a comparatively thin moistening pad on said holder, a presser foot having a Hat under surface in a-plane with said un- 1" ner edge in proximity and der surface of said holder and having a straight inner edge portion in proximity and parallel to said straight inner edge of said holder, with a forwardly and inwardly projecting tongue inclined upwardly from the forward inner corner of said presser foot for thepurpose described.
2. A sealing tool of the character described comprising a moistening pad holder having the top surface of the forward end beveled and having a straight inner edge, a
comparatively thin moistening pad supported on said holder, a presser foot having a flat under surface in a plane with the under surface of said holder and having a straight inner edge portion in proximity and parallel to said straight inner edge of said holder, said presser foot further tongue 25.
3. A sealing tool of the character described comprising a moistening pad holder of sheet metal having a flat under surface and. a straight inner edge and having its forward'end bent upwardly and down on to the forward'end of a comparatively thin provided with the moistening pad on said holder to form a beveled forward end surface, a presser foot having a flat under surface and a straight parallel to said straight inner edge of said holder, said presser foot further provided with the tongue 25.
