To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT RICHARD HOUSE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Pearson, in the county of Coffee and State of Georgia, have made cer tain new and useful Improvements in Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in protectors, and has for its object to provide a device of the character specified, for the use of barbers, dentists and doctors for pro tecting them against discomfort and contagion when at work.

The present embodiment of the invention comprises a rigid or semi-rigid shield 1, of celluloid or like material, said shield being Sha ed to fit over the nose, as shown in Fig. 1. -Tlhe lower edge of the shield is recessed or concaved to fit the lip and the free edge of the shield, that is, that portion which contacts with the face is faced with a protective facing 2 of felt or the like.
A nose-piece of substantially U-shape is connected with the inner surface of the protector near the upper end, the said nose piece comprising a body portion 3 and arms 4, and the nose piece is of resilient material and adapted to engage the bridge of the nose like the nose piece of a pair of spectacles.
The free ends of the arms 4 are bent outwardl as shown at 5 to facilitate the placing 0 the nose piece, and the resilient arms clasp the nose 1n the same manner as the nose piece of a pair of spectacles, to hold the protector in place.
At the lower end and at each side the protector has an opening, and a respiration tube is connected with the protector at each opening. Each of these tubes 6 is engaged over one end of an elbow 7, and each elbow has a marginal flange 8. Each elbow is internally threaded at the flange, and a flanged nipple 9 is connected with each elbow at the opening. Each nipple passes through the opening of the protector and is threaded into the elbow, the flange of the nipple abutting the inner face of the protector while the flange of the elbow abuts the outer face. Each of the tubes is stiffened or reinforced by a wire 10 within the same, and extending from the elbow to the outer end of the tube. The outer end of each tube 6 is pro vided with a species of strainer, the said strainer being of perforate material, as for instance, wire gauze, and in the form of a sphere.
The sphere 11 has a nipple 12 which is fitted into the outer end of the tube and the wire 10 extends into the sphere, and will hold the tube in the position shown in Fig.
1. In use, the protector is arranged as shown in Fig. l, with the nose piece 3, 4, 5, engaging the bridge of the nose, and with the tubes 6 supported by the ears.
The wearer respires through the tubes and since the air enters at the back of the head,
any air respired by the person being operated upon cannot be breathed by the wearer.
I claim:
1. A protector comprising a semi-rigid adapted to engage the nose to hold the pr0- tector in place, said protector having respiration tubes at each side of the lower end and adapted to be supported by the ears, each tube having at its outer end a perforate strainer, and the tube being reinforced by a wire.
2. A protector comprising a semi-rigid shield shaped to fit over the nose, and having a cushioning facing at its edge for engaging the face, a nose piece connected with the protector at the upper part thereof and adapted to engage the nose to hold the protector in place, said protector having respiration tubes at each side of the lower end gaging the face, a nose piece connected with and adapted to be supported by the ears, the protector at the upper part thereof and each tube having at its outer end a perforate adapted to engage the nose to hold the prostrainer. tector in place, said protector having res- 5 3.
