To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, AUGUST C. Pnncnnn, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Cottonwood, in they county of Lyon and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in iVashing-Machines; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
rlhis invention relates to washing machines, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a washing machine which'includes a rubber which moves longitudinally over a rubbing board, to provide practically the same action as is occasioned by the rubbing ofl clothes by hand upon an ordinary washeboard, so as to properly cleanse theclothes.
Another object of this invention is to provide a washing machine as specied which includes a detergent liquid retainer in which is mounted ay rubbing board, and
a rotary rubber' which is adapted to rotate and move longitudinally over the surface of the rubbing board.
Anotherl object of this invention is to provide a pivotally mounted handle to which is connected the arm of the rotary rubber so that upon pivotal movement of the lever or handle the rubber will be moved longitudinally over the surface, and further to provide a rack bar and pinion construction for rotating the rubber during its movement over the rubbing board. v
A still further obect of this invention is to provide a power transmitting structure, f
or a power balancing structure which is attached to the under surface of the detergent liquidv retaining receptacle and includes ay pair of gears anda balance'wheel, to one connected, which arm is connected lever for transmitting power tothe lever, or for balancing the movement of the lever and increasing its momentum.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, this invention Vconsists in'such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the ac companying drawings and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein likecharacters designate. like and corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure l is a longitudinal section through the improved washing machine; f

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 designates the detergent liquid retainingreceptacle, which is preferably rectangular in shape, andis supported by suitable supporting legs 2. rEhe receptacle 1 may have'the usual type of outlet or drain indicated at 3V audits upper side or top is open.l rFhe end wall 4 of the receptacle 1 has adrain pan attached thereto, to the outer edge of which is attached a wringer supporting bar 6.
A rubbing-board 7 is mounted within the receptacle l and it is constructed of wood or analogous material, comprising a main supporting structure 8 having a plurality of transversely extending bars 9 attached to its upper surface, which are disposed in spaced relation to each other and have their upper surfaces conveXly curved so as to provide a proper rubbing surface over which clothes may be rubbed. The rubbing-board '4' is loosely mounted in the receptacle 1 so that it will iioat upon the water or other liquid within the receptacle.
A pair of horizontally positioned rack bars 10 are attached to the inner surfaces of the sides 11 of the receptacle 1 midway of their upper and lower edges and the teeth of the rack bars 10 mesh with the peripheral teeth of pinions 12 which are mounted upon the rubber shaft 13. The rubber 14 is mounted upon the shaft 13 for rotation therewith, and it 'comprises a pair of end plates 15 which have a plurality of blades 1G attached thereto. The blades 16 radiate from the shaft 13 as clearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings and they have their outer edges rounded as shown at 17 to provide'curved surfaces for engagement with clothes being washed for eliminating the liability of tearing the clothes by sharp corners ot the rubbing plate. ai substantially loi-shaped plate 1S hasthe lower ends of its legs loosely inounted upon the shaft 13 outwardly or the Vplatesl. What is claimed is l. ln a Washing machine structure, a retaining receptacle, a float-ing rubbing board positioned within said receptacle, a pair of rack bars attached to the sides of said receptacle and extending longitudinally therealong, a rubber positioned Within said receptacle andincludiug a shaft, a pair of end plates mounted upon said shaft, a plurality of radially extending rubbing plates carried by said end plates and said shaft, pinions mounted upon said shaft and meshing with said rack bars or rotating the rubber, and means for moving said rubber longitudinally over said rubbing board.
