TABLE.
following is a specification.
My invention relates to tables of that kind in which the construction is such that the structure can be knocked down and assembled flatwise together for transportation.
. Generally stated, the object of my inven-.
tion is to provide a novel and highly effective knock down table.
A special object is to provide a knock down table adapted more particularly for use in combination with folding beds- It is also an object to provide a knock down table construction which will be strong and serviceable, easy to put together and take apart, and which can be readily connected with the folding bed, whereby a table bed is provided which can be shipped at less cost than heretofore.
A further object is to provide certain de tails and features of construction tending to increase the general elflciency of a knock down table of this particular character.
To these and other useful ends my invention consists in matters hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a knock down table embodying the principlesv of my invention.
Fig. 2 is an end elevation of said table.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged section on line 3-3 in Fig. 2.
Fig. Ais a detail section on line l4 in Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a perspective of one end section of said table.
Fig. 6 is a perspective of one end portlon of the rear side wall. 7
Fig. 7 is a perspective of one end portion of the foot board of said table. 7
As thus illustrated, my invention comprises a pair of end sections A, (see Fig. 5) one for each end of the table. Each end section comprises a pair of legs a connected together by a cross bar a and by an end wall a The bar a extends from one leg to the other, inside of the walls a and at the lower edge thereof, in order to form a support for the bed frame (not shown), the struc Specification of Letters Patent. t t 0 1;; 1 1917 Application filed September 29, 1913. Serial No. 792,262.
ture being what is known as a tablebed. The front legs a are recessed at the top, forming reduced portions 6& into which are mortised the ends of the wall of, and which are provided on the opposite sides 'Wltll grooves a The shoulder a of these legs are provided with sockets a At the other side of the table the legs are provided with recesses a forming shoulders at? for the bar a". These legs are also provided with vertical slots a provided with, upper and lower pins a, and with a hole a.
As showninFig. 6, the rear side section or wall B is provided at its ends with hooks b that enter the slots a and engage the pins a, whereby the end sections A are held in place. A screw 6 is inserted through the hole a, and through the hole 72 in the upper hook b, at each end of the wall B, to hold said wall in position. By removing these screws, the wall B can'be lifted out of engagement with the end sections.
The top C is hinged at c to the upper edgeof the wall B, andat c to the upper edge of the front section D. This wall D is provided at its lower edge with projections 01 that enter the sockets a and with ribs d that enter the slots a whereby the wall D binds the end sections in place, and prevents the table from drawing apart.
Preferably, the foot board E engages the slots 6 in the bars (1 and is removably held in place by screws e This board E is of such size and location that the table has the requisite clearance underneath. In other words, it may be used in theordinary way as a library or desktable.
When knocked down or separated, the
ately above the strip or bar a and immediately inside of the wall a forms a recess on the inside of the upper portion of the end section, which recess is closed at its rear end by that portion of the leg which contains the slot a, this recess being in line with the front and rear legs. Thesaid rethese recesses in the upper portions of the;
end sections, but areont of line vertically with the slots or grooves a which receive the ribs (Z on the innersu rface of the front section D, in the manner shown and described Necessarily, therefore, the rear side section B is disposedbetween the rear legs, and in line therewith, being considerably shorter than the front side section D, which latter has its end portions arranged to overlap the'reduced upper portions of the front legs. 7
I do not limit myself to the exact constructionshown and described;
"What I claim'as my invention is:
1. A knock 'down table comprising legs connectediin pairs, forming end sections for the table, provided with engaging portions, a side section provided with means for re movably engaging said portions, another side section-,projections on the loweredge thereof to engage two of said legs, and a top section, one side section being shorter than the other side section, together with hinges between said top and side sections.
2. A knock down table comprising legs connected in pairs, forming end sections for the table, provided with engaging portions, a side section provided with means for remov-ably engaging said portions, another side section, and a top'se'ction,j said last mentioned side section having projections on the lower edge thereof, and two'of said legs having sockets for said projections.
3. A knock down table comprising legs connected in pairs, forming end sections for the table, provided with engaging portions, a side section provided with means for re movably engaging said portions, another side section, one side section being shorter than the other side section, and a hinged top section,'said last mentioned side section having means on the lower-edge thereof for engaging two of said legsto' hold the end sections against displacement away from each other. 1
4(- A knock down table comprising legs connected in pairs,form ing end sections for the table, provided with engaging portions, a side section provided with means for re movably engaging said; portions and hold-, ing saidend sections in operative position,
another side section, one side section being shorter than the other side section, and a top section, thedrfferent sections thus separably combined forming a knock down table with a rectangular upper portion, the top and one side of which are displaceable to afiord access to the interior thereof.
5. A' knock down table comprising legs connected in pairs, forming end sections for the table, provided with engaging portions, a side section provided with means for removably engaging said portions, another side section, and a top section, said last mentioned side section having projections on the lower edgethereo'f, and two of said legs having socketsfor said projections, said first mentioned side" section being removably disposed between the two end sections, and
the other side section having its ends ex tended to overlap the front edges of said endsections- 7 6. A knock down table comprising legs connected in pairs, forming end sections for the table, provided with engaging portions, a side section provided with means for removably engaging said portions, another side section, and a top section, said last mentioned side section having projections on the lower edge thereof, andtwo of said'legs having sockets for said projections, said end sections being formed with recesses eX- tending along the inner sides thereof, each recess being closed at its lower edge, open at its upper edge, closed at its rear end,
closed at its outer side,and open at its'front end, when the end alone; r
