A`With the above and other objects in v iew the invention consists inthe details of constructionand in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described andparticularly pointed out in vthe appended claims.' v
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had tothe accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which- Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a safe showing both the normal door and the emergency door in open position;

Referring to the drawings A indicates a safe or vault provided with the usual door opening 10 adapted to be closed by a hinged door 11 all in the usual and well known manner. Mounted on the front of the safe A and extending to one side of the latter is a casing 12 in which is slidably mounted an emergency door 13 normally heldin closed position with respect to the opening 1Q by Specification of Letters-Patent.'

Mounted on the inner wallof v the casing abovethe latch 14 is a magnet g 16 adapted to attract the latch 14when 65 energized for the purpose of moving the latch to Vrelease position and permitting the springs 14 to close the door 13. The magnet 16 is included in an electric circuit emanatingfrom a battery or other`electrical source 17. One pole of this source is connected to the magnet 16 by means of a wire 18 While the other pole is connected to'a contact 19 byv a wire 20. Another contact21 spacedI from the contact 19 is connected to the magy'15 net 16 by means of a wire 22. The contacts l 19 and 21 are adapted to be\connected by means of a contact plate 23 which is no mally held out of engagement with theazontacts 19 and 21 by means of springs 24. 80 This plate 23 is disposed just in front of the door opening 10 'so that when a person approaches the opening 10 0and his weight is disposed upon the plate 23 the latter will be s forced into engagement with the 4contacts l85 19 and 21 and close the electric circuit to energize the magnet 16. The energization of the magnet 16 will of course move the latch 14 to release position and permit the door 13 to move .to closed position under 90 the iniiuence of the springs 14. The magnet 16 is also adapted to be energized by a predetermined opening movement of the door 11, said door being provided with a contact 25 adapted to engage a contact 26 on .the 95 safejA when the door has been opened `a suflicient distance. This contact 25 is. connected to the wire 20'by means of a Wire 27 while the contact 26 is connected to the wire 22 by.means of a wire 28. By' this 100 y construction it will be obvious upon reference to Fig. 6 that when the contacts 25 and 26 are engaged the magnet 16 will be energized to release the door 13.
The structure just described is particularly useful in guarding against robbery in that employees can effect the closing bfthe door 12 ina quick and mysterious manner when threatened. The door 12 carries anarm 29 provided With a contact 30 adapted 110 to engage a contact 31 on the safe A when the door 12 is closed for the purpose of closing a suitable electric'c'ircuit to sound a suitable alarm.z l
