Description

y B. PANARA. DRYING APPARATUS APPLICATION FILED APR. 23, 19!? Patented Oct. 9,1917;
UNITED STATES PATENT. onFIoE.
BEBTRANDOIPAINARA, or ROME, NEW YORK.
DRYING- APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 23, 1917. Serial No. 163,906;
To all whom it may concern:
Be it lmown that I, BERTRANDO PANARA, a subject of the King of Italy, and resident of Rome, county of Oneida, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drying Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to drying apparatus and more particularly to macaromv scription taken in connection with the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a partial side elevation and partial longitudinal section of a drier embodying the invention; and
Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the line 22 of Fig. 1. r v
Referring to the drawings 10 indicates a tier of rectangular rooms and 11 a second tier arranged on the tier 10 and with its rooms directly over the rooms of the tier 10 and adapted to be shut off therefrom by removable partitions 12. It will be under' stood that there may be other tiers above the tier 11 and the rooms of each tier separated from those of the adjoining tiers by removable partitions similar to the partitions 12. rated by vertical partitions 13 and have doors 14: on one or two sides. Each of the rooms is also provided with supports 15 for poles 16 on which the macaroni 17 is hung.
Above the tier 11 is a chamber 18 in which there is arranged a ventilating fan 19 on shaft 20, the latter being driven by power in any suitable manner, as by pulley 21.
The rooms of the tier 11 are separated from the chamber 18 by removable partitions 22 and to give convenient access to these partitions the'chamber 18 may be provided with doors 23 on one side. Air may The rooms of each tier are sepa-.
be supplied to chamber 18 through openings- 24 in the end walls or in any other suitable manner.
In the operation of the drier'therotation of fan 19 causes a circulation of air down-' wardly through the rooms. When used in connection with a continuously operating macaroni plant some of the rooms will be in process of filling with fresh macaroni and others in process of being emptied at all times. All rooms in which'the macaroni is drying will be open to chamber '18, the partition 22 being out. The doors 14 on one or both sides of the room will be open to permit the air, which flows downwardly from chamber 18 to escape. When it is de sired to dry macaroni in a roomof tier 10 I the partition 12 is removed and the doors 14: ofthe room opened. In that event the doors of the room above may be open or closed.
The drier will be houseddn a suitablebuilding provided with. any well known form of ventilating system.
Having thus described my invent on what I claim is:
1. In apparatus of the class described,
the combination of a plurality of tiers of separate drying rooms, doors on one or more sides of said rooms, a ventilating chamber above said tiers, a fan for blowing air from said-chamber into the rooms of the uppermost of said tiers, means for shutting off any. of the rooms of said uppermost tier from said chamber, and means for separately closing 0E. the rooms of one tier from the rooms of another tier.
2. In apparatus of the class described,
PatentedOct. 9, 1917. Y
the combination of a plurality of tiers of separate drying rooms, doors on oneor more sldes of said rooms, a ventilating chamber above said tiers, a shaft extending longitudinally of said chamber, fans on said shaft adapted to circulate the air from said chamber to the rooms therebelow, means for shutting off any of the rooms of said uppermost tier from said chamber, and means for sepa-- rately closing off the rooms of one tier from the rooms of another tier.
1 In testimony whereofI affix my signature.
BERTRANDO PANARA.
