Be it known that I, Joli-I JA'NUoHowsKY, a citizen of the United States of America,
and a resident of the city of St. Louis and State of Missourhhave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Closures for Barrels, of which the following is a specification.
The primary object ,of this invention is to provide an improved closure for-barrels whereby the closure when removed is suspendedfrom the barrel so it cannot become misplaced or lost.
Another ob ect is to provide" an improved closure with improved securing means whereby the closure is firmly braced against outward pressure from the contents of the barrel.

Secured to one side of the barrel 1 is a supporting bracket 9, said bracket having a bent portion 10 which is adapted to be engaged on the top edge of the. barrel. Attention is called to the position, of the swingingly mounted member 5 which rests on the top-of the closure 2 when the closure is secured to the barrel, the right-angled portions 6 and straight-way portion ear the swingingly mounted member 5 engaging the top surface of the closure. As the ends or the portions 6 are pivoted -to the barrel v1,
as shown at 7 the closure is very firmly braced against any end pressure of the contents of the barrel, as no swinging movement can be given to the member 5 until the closure has been disengaged from the bracket 9, which can only be after the closure has been unbolted and the closure moved to the position shown in Fig. 3.
In providing an improved locking memher for a closure so the locked position of the sliding bolt 14 can 'be sealed, the looking member 13 has a base plate 16- which is secured to the top side of the closure 2. From this base plate an upwardly bent por tion 17 and a struck-out portion 18 are formed which serve as bearings to the sliding bolt 14:. In alinement with the portion 18 is formed an upwardly bent portion 19' which serves as a rear stop to the bolt. The
What I claim is:
1. The combination of a barrel, aclosure, and a swingingly mounted member, said member having angular bent portions formed thereon, guideways located in the top of said closure, said member being mounted at one end in said guideways, and swingingly mounted at its opposite end to said barrel, said angular bentportions of said member adapted to bear against the top of said closure. w
2. The combination of a barrel, a closure, and a swingingly mounted member, guideways located in the top of said closure, said member being mounted at one end in said guideways and mounted at its opposite end to said barrel above said closure, said member adapted to brace said closure against outward pressure when said closure is mounted in one end of said barrel.
3. The combination of a barrel, a closure, and a swingingly mounted member, guideways located on the top or" said closure, a bifurcated bracket secured to the inside wall of said barrel, a locking member secured to said closure, said swingingly mounted memher being mounted at one end in. said guideways and mounted atv its opposite end to said barrel above said closure,
said swingingly mounted member adapted to brace said closure against outward pressure when said closure is mounted 1n sald bracket, and secured to said barrel by said looking member.

bifurcated bracket secured to the inside wall of said barrel, a locking member secured to said closure, said swingingly mounted mem ber being mounted at one end in said guideways and mounted at its opposite end to said barrel above said closure, said swingingly mounted member adapted to brace said closure against outward pressure when said closure is mounted'in said bracket and secured to said barrel by said locking memher, said guideways providin means for al lowing saidv closure to become disengaged from said bracket. r

The combination of a barrel, a closure, and a swingingly mounted member, apair of guideways formed in the top of said cloends of said right angled portions being pivotally mounted tothe wall of said bar; rel above said closure, a bifurcated bracket secured to the inside wall of said barrel, said closure adapted to engage said bracket,

In a barrel, a closure, a bifurcated bracket secured to the inside wall of said engage and disengage said barrel, a swinging member pivotally mounted at one end to said barrel above said closure, the other end of said swinging niemher being secured to the top of said closure, a lockingmember secured to said closure,'one
