Description

M. L'UKACS. DEVICE FOR ATTACHING TIES.
APPLICATION FILED DEC. 18. 19l6- 1,242,216, I Patented Oct. 9, 1917.

MicisiAEt LuKAcs;
oF-NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOB or ONE-HA2]? 'ro DAVID, a -m; or
DEVICE "ma ma-came TIES."
Be it known that I, MICHAEL LUKAOS, a subject of the ,Emperor of Austria-Hungary, resident of New York, county of New York, andState of New York, have invent ed certain new and useful Improvements in" Devices for Attaching Ties, of which the following is a specification. i
This invention relates to-improvements in necktie fasteners, and has as its principal object the provision'of means whereby an element slidably engaged with the tie may be secured readily to a button of the com mon form and the tie afterwardmanipulated so as to bring it into proper relation with the'collar or other neckwear of the wearer.
Another object is to provide'such fasteners comprised of few and simple parts, the
same being readily engageable. or disen gageable and which inno wise aflect the appearance of the tie. I
These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereafter described and shown in the accompanying drawi ng, formin'g a ma terial part of this disclosure, and in which Figure l is a rear plan view ofa-tie show- V ing the application of the fastener.
' Fig. 2 is a similar rear vplan view, parts being broken away to show the application I more clearly.
Fig. 3 is a rear plan view. of the fastener drawn to an enlarged scale. V
Fig. 4 is a front view of the same, and Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 4:. l The tie, here designated by the numeral 10, is ofv the ordinary construction, provided with an encircling band 11 near the top, from the upper rearportion of which extend wing elements 12 adapted to be inserted between the down-turnedportions of an ordinary collar in the usual manner.
Rigidly securedby the arms 15 by stitch.-
ing or like means to the back of the tie, is a plate 16- to which is attached a casing; 17 having a raised central portion 18 presenting a longitudinal recess 20 in which is slidably engage a flat bar 22 having at one Specification of Letters Patent.

ed toentirely fillthe space between the'plate 16 and ra sed portion 18of the casings. Formed in 'thebar 22 are tw'oindenta- "tions, respectively" 25 and 26', engageable .WlthWVl'llCh is; a projection 28 'formed near the end of a" resilient tongue 29 integral with the plate 16. i
, Formed in the raised cover 18 of the r'ecess 201s a"tra'nsverse indentation 30 the" polntof which isenga-geable with therin-' Patented ocae, 1917'. end a reentrantly turnedextension 23 adaPtdentations 25 and 26 whereby thebarmay be reslliently; held in either of its adjusted j cular head 82 having a recess 33 encompass-y with the raised marginal edges 35 of the head, by meansfof integrally ,fori'ned clips 36, is a resilientspring eleinent'38 having closely approachmg curved ends 39v which are pressed apart as the button stem is en- ,tered'into the opening 33 engaging the stem 1 in themanner of a spring clip whereby the I circular end of the bar is resiliently-butse curely attachedto thestem ofthebutton.
This is preferably done when the bar 22 is in its upper-position, being after ward drawn down as shown in Figs. 3 and 4,}
whereby the tab elements 12 are raised into proper relation with the collar.
7 Having thus described my invention, and desire to secure by Letters'Patent, is
j 1. A necktie fastenercomprising a plate attached to the tie, a barslidably engaged f with said plate, means for holding said bar in two different positions, an eye formed at the bottom of said bar, and means combined I with said eye for resiliently engaging th shank of a button. V
-2. A necktie fastener comprisinga plate,
means for attachment to the tie, a casing on said plate, a bar slidably. engaged within said casing, said barhavingspaced indentations, a spring formed'with said plate engageable with either of said indentations, an open eye formed with said bar, and a re silient clip engaged'with said eye partially inelo sing the opening thereto v Copies of this patent may be obtained-f0 pointed resilient clip partially surrounding said head having its free ends partially obsaid clip to said head.
