To all w/wm t may concern.' Be it known that l, JOHN J. Gross, a citizen. of the United States, residing at Toledo, in the county of Lucas, invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Gages for Gasolene-Tanks; and I do herebyv declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. r
This-invention relates to improvements in gages and has special reference to gages for gasolene tanks, used on automobiles andV the vibrations due to the ruiming of the yautomobile will not cause fracturev of such glass.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a novel andimproved form of end member for gages f this descrintion wherein provision will be made for lirmlv holdin(r or grasping'. the gage lglass so thatl the latter will not vibrate.
With the above and other objects in view, as will be hereinafter apparent the invengeneral of certain novel dev tails of construction and vcombinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and specilically claimed.

mobile is substantially the same, the only dltlerence being that "in Vthe gter case a suitable vent is provided in connection .with
such device, all of the main parts remainf lng the same.
In the embodiment of the invention herein illustrated there is provided a base member 10 which has suitable openings for the reception of screws l1 used to secure the base member other support as may be desired.
This basemember extends vertically and at each end thereof there is fixed tothe base member, as by the rivets 12 an end member or casting which. forms a fitting `for the to the panel or dash or such connection of a gageglass with the'pipes connectingthe device with `the tank. The.'`
upper end member is vindicated in generalr at 13, while the lower end member is similarly indicated at 14.
This upper end member is preferably in the form of a die casting and ,consists of a body l5 having a bore 16 extending vertically therethrough. The lower part of this bore is smooth as at 17 and wardly. Communicating with .this bore between the smooth portion and the upper endl thereof is a lateral passage or opening 18 which' has its outer l receive a pipe or tube as at 19. Between end arranged `to opens d0Wnthe smooth portion of the bore' and the openy I I ing 18 the bore is threaded in a suitable manner to receive the threaded sleeve 20, the under side of which thus forms an adjustable shoulder for purposes hereinafter to be described. Between theopening 20 and the upper endof the bore the latter is threaded to receive a pipe .plug 21. This pipe threaded portion is, of course, slightly larger than the threaded portion below the opening so that ready introduction of the sleeve 2O is permitted. Moreover, the sleeve 20 is provided with'some suitable means, such as lugs 22 for theengagfement of a screw driver or. wrench so that' vthe sleeve4 Abe adjusted vertically in thelower threaded 4portion of the fitting.'
The iitting 14: is similar to th tting 13 being provided with a body portion 23 having a bore 24 which extends downward -froin the top of the fitting and terminates in a re duo'ed shoulder portion 25.` portion has leading laterally ,therefromv a passage or opening 26 provided with means This shouldered 1i@ at its end to connectr a pipe,as- -indicated. .T
