Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 2, 1917.
Application filed. April 11, 1917. Serial. No. 161,198.
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, JAMES W. WHITE, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Tela, Honduras, Central America, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Shaving-Brushes, lowing is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in brushes, and more particularly to shaving brushes of the fountain type, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a brush of this type that is provided with means to heat the liquid before the same is fed to the brush.
Another object of the invention is to provide a shaving brush provided with a liquid holding receptacle, that communicates with the head portion of the brush to feed water thereto, and ,said receptacle including electrical means whereby the water is heated before being fed to the brush.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a shaving brush of this character that is provided with a liquid holding receptacle adapted to feed water to the head of the brush, and said brush being also provided with means for controlling the fiow of water thereto.
A still further object of the invention is of which the folto provide a device of this character which is easily and simply constructed, inexpensive to manufacture, and one which will be very eiiicient in operation.
With these and numerous other objects in view, my invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, which will be hereinreferred to and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claims.
In the accompanying drawing:
The figure illustrates a vertical section through the new and improved fountain shaving brush, showing the brush head and handle in elevation.
In describing my invention 1 shall refer to the drawing, in which the numeral 1 designates a liquid holding receptacle, which is adapted to receive water, and which is provided with an open top 2 internally threaded as shown at 3 adjacent its marginal edge.
The liquid holding receptacle 1 is formed of metal or any other desired material, and adapted to be positioned in the open top therof is a brush head tle holding portion 5 formed with external 4 having a base. bris screw threads thereon adapted to operatively engage the internal threads in the open top of the receptacle 1. The base 5 of the brush head is formed with a plurality of openings 6 therethrough which communicate with the liquid holding receptacle, said openings having a plurality of copper tubes 7 forming a lining therefor. provided with a slide valve 8, that has a plurality of openings adapted for alinement with the openings 6 through the base at certain times and movable out of alinement therewith to control, or cut-oil water fed from the liquid holding receptacle to the brush head.
The brush is provided with a handle 9 of the conventional type having a recess 10 in its top, and said handle is provided with a projecting flared portion 11 adapted to engage the bottom of the liquid holding receptacle 1, as clearly shown in the drawing.
This flared portion 11 is secured thereto by set screws, soldering, or any other desired means. The recess 10 in the top of the handle 9 is disposed in alinement with an open ing in the bottom of the receptacle 1, for a purpose to be hereinafter stated.
Secured to the top ofthe handle 9 is a casing 12 formed of porcelain or any other desired insulating material, which projects upwardly therefrom, and is adapted to be positioned through the opening in the bot tom of the receptacle 1, and hence is disposed within the interior of said receptacle.
ositioned in the casing 12 is .an electrical heater 13, and connected with said heater 13 are current delivering wires 14:, that en tend through a passage 15 projecting laterally through the handle, and communicating with the recess 10 in the bottom thereof. At this point the wires extend upwardly and are connected with the heater, to feed the current thereto, for operating the same.
In operation when the receptacle 1 is filled The base is ice with water, the brush head 4 is positioned through the open top thereof as clearly shown in the drawing, and upon the elec- This type of fountain shaving brush will e ma t desirable far tra elers, a
the like where hot water for shaving is not always obtainable.
From the foregoing description of the construction and operation of my new and improved shaving brush, the manner of applying the same to use and the operation thereof will be readily understood, and it will be seen that I have provided a simple and ellicient means for carrying out the objects of this invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. The combination with a fountain brush of the class described including a liquid holding receptacle, and a liquid heating means carried thereby. 2. The combination with a portable fountain shaving brush including a liquid receptacle, and a heater carried by said brush and disposed in the receptacle.
3. The combination with a portable fountain shaving brush including a liquid holding receptacle, of a casing in said receptacle and an electric heater ositioned within sai casing to heat the liquid'fed to the brush.
4. In a brush of the class described the combination with a liquid holding receptacle, a brush head having its base connected with said receptacle and communicating therewith, a valve to control the flow of liquid to said brush, a handle connected to said receptacle, and liquid heating means carried by said receptacle.
5. In a brush of the class described the combination with a liquid holding receptacle, a brush head having its base connected with said receptacle and communicating therewith, a valve to control the flow of liquid to said brush, a handle connected with said receptacle, and an electric heater disposed in said receptacle to heat the liquid fed to the brush.
In testimony whereof, I afi'lx my signature hereto.
JAMES W. WHITE.
