Be it known that 1, RAoUL vJ.. Henner, a citizen fof the United lStates, residing at Worcesten'in the 'countyof VVorcester fand State lof h/Iassachusetts, have invented-'cen tain new and useful improvements in Die- Stocks, `of which vthe :following is a specification.
This invention relates to die stocks #and the prima-ry objectief the invention is .to provide a stock'for holding a die, and'provided with means to guide the stock on the work, whereby .a `perfectly stnaight thread wilfl be formed..
Another objectof the invention is to provide adjustablev work engaging members c carried by the die ,stock to 'act-as guide members "inadvance of the die, thus assuring the proper formation o'f the threads fon the work.
A further object of 'this invention is the provision of a die stock which consists of comparatively few parts and is simple in construction, but durable and well adapted to withstand the'rough usage to which devices of this character are ordinarily subjected.
For a full description of the invention and the advantages and merits thereof, reference is to be had to the following description and the accompanying drawings, wherein is illustrated the preferred form of my invention, in which;

Referring to the drawing, wherein is illustrated the preferred form of my invention, and in which like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the stock consists of the central casing in the formA of a block 1 having the oppositely extending handles 2 of any desired length for the purdetail perspective view of the ySpecification of LetteIs'Patent. The casing has a relatively large circular 'recess v3 in which a die, of the usual construction, may be placed and which is shown by broken lines in Figs. 2 and l of the drawing. .Extending through an opening in the side of the casing is a set screw 1, adapted to 'engage th-e sifde of the ydie within the recess 3 to hold lthe die lin rigid position within the recess.
In the opposite Iside of the casing is 'a transverse .channel 6 .in which a pair 'of jaws 6 and '7 fare mounted. rThe aw f6 has a t-ri' angular depression 8., while the jaw 7 has a triangular' tongue 9 adapted to extend into ythe depression 8, and the terminal of the tongue is cut out as at 10, so that fthe apex 'of the triangular depression -8 may coa'et with the cuteout 10 to engage an article extended through the center of the die stock. Gommunic-ation between the recess '3, and the channel 5 is established by an opening 11, while the bottom yof the stock has a vsmaller opening 12, thus providing a continuous passageway from the top to the bottom of the stock casing.
The jaws 6 and 7 are slidably mounted in the channel 5, and are adjusted through the medium of an adjusting screw 13 engaged with screw threaded openings 14 provided in the jaws 6 and 7, and which are oppositely 'threaded with right and left hand threads to obtain the necessary movement when vthe screw is rotated. A knurled head 15 is carried bv the end of the screw to facilitate its rotation.
The open ends of the channel 5 are normally closed bv end plates 16 secured to the casing in any preferred manner, and the screw 13 is rotatably mounted in the plates to maintain a certain pre-determined position when rotated so that the necessary movement may be imparted to the guide jaws. These jaws are disposed considerably below the die which will be mounted in the recess 3 when the device is in operation. By turning the screw, the jaws may be adjusted to engage a pipe or rod upon which the screw threads are to be formed. The contacting portions of the jaws serve to guide the stock so that the die will be held in perfect longitudinal alinement with the pipe or rod thus assuring perfect threads when the die engages the pipe or rod and performs threads. ,Y
