WIMDOW SCREEN.

WINDOW-SCREEN.
LeansiaQ To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, Erasmus A. WARE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Groton, in the countyol` New London, State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in l/Vindow- Screens; and I do hereby declare the :tollowing to be a full, clear, and cXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in window screens and has for one of its objects to provide a window screen embodying means of novel construction and arrangement by reason ot which it may be quickly and conveniently adjusted to permit of its application to windows of various sizes The invention further purposes a novelly adjustable window screen having an improved means by which it may be securely locked in -its various positions of adjustment so that it may not be removed from the window casing by a person stationed outside of the building.
`With the above and other objects of similar nature in view the invention consists in the construction. combination and arrangement of parts set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the improved window screen,
Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 is a detail section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, and,
Fig. 4: is a detail view of the locking device, the same being in inactive position to permit of adjusting the screen sections.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawing, my improved window screen comprises a pair of substantially rectangular frame sections 5 and 6, each having stretched thereacross and secured in any suitable manner a web of wire screening 7. The :trame sections 5 and 6 are arranged in a common plane one upon the vother and are slidably connected for relative longitudinal adjustment through the medium ot plates or guide clips 8 disposed on opposite sides of the adjacent frame member of the secspecieauon f Letters Patent.

tions and secured alternately thereto by screws 9.
Carried by the outer end members of the frame sections 5 and 6 and secured thereto as indicated at 10 are plates 11, each of which slidably overlap the other section so as to permit the adjustment and application of the 'screen to windows of various sizes without leaving an open space between the inner end member of the sections and the window casing.
In order to lock the sections 5 and 6 in their various positions of adjustment there is carried by the inner longitudinal frame bar of the section 5 a fixed laterally projecting pin 12 upon which is pivotally mounted a locking lever 13. The lever 13 is provided at its upper end with a reduced handle portion 14: by which it is manipulated, and has its lower end directed at right angles as indicated at 15 to extend beneath the inner frame bar of the section 6. The lever is furthermore provided with an angle or bayonet slot 15 loosely receiving the pin 12, said slot being so arranged that upon movement of the lever in one direction as indicated in Fig. 1 the projection 15, of the lower end of the lever will act as a fulcrum upon the frame section 6 while the pin will slide downwardly in the slot to move the sections 5 and 6 into binding contact one with the other they being in this manner securely held against relative movement as is evident. However, when it is desired to adjust or remove the screen the lever is swung in the opposite direction at which time the pin will ride upwardly in the slot and disengage the projection 15 from the frame 6, the sections being thus free to move as will be evident by reference to Fig. 4.
What I claim is An adjustable window screen comprising operable to hold the two sections against In testimony whereof, I affix my signamovement wtl.) resipeeft to each other, and ture, in the presence of two witnesses.
