.tion is to provide a hook which may be used for holding a hat and coat, the hat being passed between a stationary and a movable jaw and the coat being suspended from an arm forming part of the hook.
Another object of the invention is to so construct this hook that the coat supporting arm and stationary jaw of the clasp may be formed integral with the carrying plate or body portion of the hook, the movable jaw being pivotally connected with hinge ears extending from the back plate or body portion.
Another object of the invention is to so construct this hook that the movable jaw of the hat engaging clasp may be yieldably held in a closed position by a spring mounted upon the pivot pin of the clasp.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view showing the improved hook in side elevation,
Fig. 2 is a view showing the improved hook in front elevation.
The base plate or body portion 10 is provided with side Wings 11 through which the securing screws 12 may pass. The stationary jaw 13 of the hat engaging clasp extends from the lower end of the base plate 10 and the coat supporting arm 1th extends from the upper end of this base plate and is braced by the bracing web 15. The movable jaw 16 of the hat clasp is provided with hinge ears 17 through which the pivot pin Specification of Letters Patent.

18 passes, the pivot pin being carried by the hinge ears 19 extending from the base plate 10. It will thus be seen that the movable jaw will be pivotally mounted and further that it will be yieldably held in a closed position by the spring 20 mounted upon the pivot pin 18 between the hinge ears 19 and having its arms engaging the base plate 10 and the movable aw as shown in Fig. 1. A handle 21 extends from the upper end of the movable jaw so that this movable jaw may be swung to an open position by pressing upon the handle. It should be noted that if desired a coat or other article could be suspended from this handle in which case the weight of the coat would act as additional means for holding the movable jaw in a closed position.
I have thus provided a device of the.
character described so constructed that a hat may be carried by the clasp with the brim held between the stationary and movable jaws thereof and a coat suspended from the supporting arm 14. I have further provided a clasp so constructed that in addition to the coat and hat mentioned, a second coat could be supported from the handle 21.
What is claimed is A supporting device comprising a base plate, a stationary jaw extending from said base plate, a supporting arm extending from said base plate above the stationary jaw, a movable jaw connected with the base plate and normally contacting with the stationary jaw, and a handle for the movable jaw extending to provide a hanger arm positioned beneath the supporting arm.
