To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER L. Grrr'- Lxnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rochester, N. Y., in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Facing-Tools, of which the following is a specilication.
v The object of this invention is to provide a new andimproved form of cutting and facing tool for facing off uneven places around a bolt opening and for counterboring such openings.
Another object of this inventionl is to make this tool so that it can be readily adjusted and adapted to different sizes of openngs.
These and otherobjects of this invention will be fully illustrated in the drawings described in the specification and pointed out in the claims at the end' thereof.

In the several figures of the drawing like reference numerals indicate like parts.
The tool as shown in the drawing consists of a cylindrical body-1 which is provided with a shank 2 on one side thereof. Thisl 2 the cylindrical body 1 is provided with an extension 3 of reduced diameter. This extension has a reduced end 4 which is adapted to receive the bushing 5. The reduced end 4 of the extension 3 is hollow and is provided on the inside thereof with a female thread into which engages the elamping bolt 6. The head 7 of this bolt is adapted to clarnp the bushing 5 against the shoulder 8 formed on the extension 3 by the reduced end 4:, The bashing 5 has a larger outside diameter than the extension 3 and forms a shoulder 9 thereon for a purpose that will presently appear.

These set screws` are threaded into theV body l opposite each of the slots 10A and 11 and at right angles thereto so that the tool can beri-gidiy clamped therein.
The tools are adjusted in the holder with relation toeach other by. sliding each of the tools in their respective slots until the cutting edges thereof abut against the shoulder 9' formed by the bushing 5. In
this manner the cutting edge of each of the' tools is lined up with the other so that each of these cutting edges is flush with' the shoulder 9 formed on the extension 3. The tools are radially arranged in the cylindr'ical body 1 and their cutting edges are beveled off in opposite directions so that on the rotation of the holder both of the tools will cutrin the same direction. i
The tool is shown' with the slots the cylindrical body forming a small angle with the axis of the shank. This isnecessary when the tool is used to cut steel or a similar material in which it has to perform a cutting operation rather than a scraping operation.
If the tool is used to cut b-rass or copper the v slots 10 and 11 should run parallel to the axis of the shank of the tool so that the individual tools fastened therein will have no tendency to dig themselves into the comparatively soft material instead of uniformly scraping the material off at the surface around the opening on which the tool operates.
As above pointed out the outer end of the tool is adapted to receive different sizes of bushings which have different outside diameters which may be clamped to the extension 3 as previously described. In this manner the tool can be used for operating on different sizes of openings by simply changing the bushing at the end of the tool to correspond with the size of the opening on which the tool is to operate.
It is also understood that the cutting edge of each of the tools 11 and 12 may have an outline other than the straight edge shown in the drawing so as to adapt this tool to face ofi the material around the opening angularly or in any other form as may be desired.
In Figs. 5 and 6 is shown a modified form ofclamping means for the tools 11 and 12. In this form the slots 10 and 11 are extended into a ring 16 which surrounds the cylindrical body 1 of the tool so that each of the tools 11 and 12 is completely embraced by the slots 10 and 11. This construction permits the tools to be clamped edgewise toward the center of the cylindrical body 1 and for this purpose the said screws 17 and 18 are provided which are adapted to force the tools from the periphery toward the center of the cylindrical body 1.
If desired the slots 10 and 11 may be completely formed in the body of the tool as shown in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive, in which case the dividing line between the ring 16 and the body 1 of the tool will be the dotted line 19 indicated in Fig. 6 instead of the full line 20 shown in the same figure.

1. A tool comprising a holder, a shank on one side of said holder, an extension of reduced diameter on the other side of said holder, a bushing carried on the end and overlapping said extension to form a shoulder thereon, slots in said holder, said slots being adapted to receive tools therein, means for independently adjusting said tools in each of said slots, the cutting edge of each of said tools being adapted to project out of said holder and abut against the shoulder formed by said bushing on said extension, clamping means provided on said holder to adjustably clamp each of said tools in said holder.
2. A tool comprising a holder, a shank on one side of said holder, an extension of reduced diameter on the other side of said holder, a bushing carried on the end and over-lapping said extension to form a shoulder thereon, a ring surrounding said holder, slots in said holder, said slots being adapted to receive tools therein, means for independently adjusting said tools in each of said slots, the cuttingv edge of each of said tools being adapted to abut against the shoulder formed by said bushing on said extension, clamping means on said ring to clamp said ring and said tools into said holder. f
3. A tool compri'sing a holder, a shank on one side of said holder, an extension of reduced diameter on the other side of said holder, a bushing carried on the end and overlapping said extension to form a shoulder thereon, a ring surrounding said holder, slots in said ring, said slots being adapted to receive tools therein, means for independently adjusting said tools in each of said slots, the cutting edge of each ofsaid tools being adapted to abut against the shoulder formed by said bushing on said extension, clamping means on said ring to clamp said ring and said tools into said holder.
