This invention relates to improved construction for retaining walls, tunnel walls, p d the li and t se i p ticu ar which e s bjec ed to h avy s ress s: By my invention I utilize an inner and outer re? taining wall suitably laced to one another by metal reinforcement members, with a filling of concrete poured or blown into the space between said inner and outer retaining walls and bondingaround said mem bers to form substantially a unitary structure of great strength to withstand loads applied at any point thereon. I attain the objects of myinvention by the use of build ing blocks of improved construction adapted to permit connection thereto of the reinforcing members between the respective in,- ner and outer walls between which the filling of concrete is placed.
It is an object therefore of this invention to provide a construction for retaining walls, tunnel walls, piers and the like by building up an inner and outer wall suitably laced to one another by metallic reinforcing mem: er a d apted t c i e a fil n crete therebetween bonding about said memer to a f rd substant al y uni ry cture.

As shown in the drawings:
Asshown in Figs. 1 and 2, my wall structure has been utilized in the construction of a tunnel or conduit wherein the outer wall portion constructed of blocks 1, laid one upon another in the usual staggered relation, is of an elliptical shape and the inner wall portion, also of a somewhat elliptical shape, is constructed of blocks 2, whereby the space between said inner and outer walls is of increased width at the sides of the structure. As clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the blocks 2, of the inner wall have molded therein reinforcing rods 3, which, at the inner surface of said blocks near the ends thereof, are bent to extend therethrough, affording attaching eyes 4-, and as clearly shown in Fig. 3, at their ends are looped 'to'form an eye 5, whereby the respective eyes 5, of the terminating ends of said reinforcing rods, register with one another to receive a retaining pin 63, inserted therethrough. At their ends each of said blocks 2, is provided with a concave semi-cylindrical recess whereby a'cylindrical cavity is formed by the abutting ends of said blocks into which said eye s5, of the ends of said rods, and said retaining pins 6, are disposed, and a filling of concrete 7, is then blown therein to mold around the same.
' The outerblocks 1, are laid in built up relation upon T-bar forms, the T-bars of which are denoted by the reference numerals 8, constructed and used accordin to the principles of my invention disclosed in my copending application for patent for tunnel constructions, filed July 2nd, 1913, Serial No. 776,898, and said T-bar forms are left interlocked with said blocks for use in lacing the outer wall of the structure to the inner wall by reinforcing members.
As shown in the detail view in Fig. 5, curved angle plates 9, are releasably connected to the T-bar forms 8, by means of bolts 10, to hold the blocks in place on the form during assembly of the blocks and thereafter hold the T-bar forms rigidly associated with the built up blocks. Attaching eyes or clips denoted by the referenc ejntr meral 11, are engaged on the flanges of the T-bar forms 8, as clearly shown in Figs. 6 and 7, and hooked or otherwise engaged therethrough are the obliquely directed reinforcement or lacingmembers 12, which are also engaged to the projecting eyes 1, on the blocks of the inner wall portion. Said reinforcement rods 12, are directed obliquely, not only horizontally but also vertically, thus securely holding said respective inner and outer wall portions to one another and drawing'the blocks constituting the same in close relation.
A filling of concrete or other material suitable for the purpose, denoted by the reference numeral-1.13, is then poured into the space between the retaining walls, either after a layer of the blocks constituting the same has been. built up,or during the progress of assembly thereof, said concrete bonding around the reinforcement members 12, and affording substantially a unitary structure, of great strength giving the desired contour on the exterior of the tunnel so formed as well as on the interior thereof.
In the modification of my device illus trated in Figs. 8 "and 9, Ihave shown my idea embodied in a straight or vertical retaining wall, wherein the'outer blocks are denoted by the reference numerals 14:, and the inner blocks, by the reference numerals 15. As in the prior construction, reinforcement rods 16, are molded within the blocks 15, and are bent at certain pointsto project therethrough, affording attaching eyes 17, and similarly rods 18, are provided inthe blocks 14, and bent at certain points and projecting therethrough to, afford attaching eyes 19. Obliquely directed reinforcement rods 20, are hooked through the respective eyes 17 and 19, to hold the wall portions'associated with one another to receive a filling of concrete'21, therebetwe'en and bonded about said rods.
The operation is thought'to be obvious from the description. However, it is apparent that a very substantial and practically unitary structure is afforded by the use of doublewalls with the filling of concrete therebetween and the manner of lacing the respective blocks of the opposite Walls one to another.
I am aware that various details of construction may be varied through a Wide range without departing from the principles of this invention, and I therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted otherwise than necessitated by the prior "art.
'I claim as-my invention:
1. ""2. In a tunnel construction of the class described, an inner built up Wall, reinforcement rods molded therein and projecting through the surface thereof affording attaching eyes, an outer built up Wall, T -bar forms on which the blocks of said outer Wall are assembled, attaching clips engaged thereon, reinforcement members connected to said clips and to the eyes of said inner Walls, and a filling of concrete between said inner and outer Walls molded about said reinforce- 10 ment members.
