Be it known that I, ELMERGRUSEY, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Sidney, in the county of Shelby and Stateof Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Photographic- Print-Tashing Machines, of which the fol-' lowing is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in photographic apparatus, and while it is designed principally for washing photographic prints it is obvious from the construction of the apparatus that its use is not limited alone to photographic prints but it can be used for film negatives and for other purposes.

The primary object, however, is the washing of photographic prints without the necessity of manual handling, and to provide means for lifting the prints out of the washing fluid.

With this and other objects in view it will be understood that the invention isnot restricted to the exact detailed construction shown and described, but for the purpose of disclosure reference is made to the drawing illustrating a practical embodiment of the invention and the particular features of novelty will be pointed out in the claims following the description.

Fig. 6 is a view of the tubular water inlet. Referring particularly to the drawings, reference character Odenotes a pan havlng water inlet and outlet means designated by .E and A respectively. Said water inlet or supply comprises an upstandingtubular pocket soldered or otherwise suitably aiiixed to the outside .of the pan and adjacent a vertical opening P in the side of the pan. The tubular pocket E has a vertical opening therein, arranged opposite the opening in the side of pan for a purpose hereinafter described. This tubular pocket of greater height than soldered or otherwise suitably aflixed to the outside of the pan is the water outlet A having a mouth A, the water discharging through the. mouth A when a su'l'licient quantity has been admitted to the pan through water inlet E. The outlet A communicates with the pan through an opening A therebetween. As shown for obvious reasons the pocket or water outlet A is of less height than the depth of the pan.

Fig. 6 represents a tubular portion F having an enlarged threaded end F and a flange F adjacent thereto for a purpose hereinafter described and provided with a longitudinal series of perforations P preferably arranged at substantially regular intervals. This tubular portion F is inserted inthe tubular pocket E the perforations in the tubularportion F opposite the opening P in the pan, and the opening in the tubular pocket. The upper end of the tubular pocket E thu'sf'orms a seat for the flange F" of the'tubular portion F, and this portion F is held in position by a band clamp H actuated by a thumb-screw J From the above described construction it can be seen that water or any other washing fluid being admitted to the portion F which is positioned in pocket E, by means connected to the enlarged threaded end may be injected into the pan C in several jets or sprays the angle of projection of which may be regulated or the injection of all of the sprays may be entirely out off by turning the portion F to various positions. For instance, to entirely out off the admission of water or any washing fluid to the pan 0, the portion F is turned until the perforations P are completely out of alinement with the opening in the pocket E and pan G. The portion F may be raised until one or more of the perforations are out of register with the openings in the pocket E and pan C thus cutting off the injection of washing fluid through the perforations that are out of register.

The operation of this device is as follows :--With the parts assembled as shown and a suitable means such as a hose connected to the threaded end of portion F and to a Water or other washing fluid is admitted tothe pan in several jets or sprays providedfthat the perforations P in the tubular portion F are in registry with the openings in the pan andpocket E. Whether the water is admitted to the pan or retained in pocket E isentirely at the will of the operator, as he may turn the portionF out of registry with the abovementioned openings in the pan 0 and pocket E. The wire mesh basket B being in position in the pan and the perforations P in portion 13. being in registry with the above mentioned openings, the jets or sprays of water ejected therethroiigh will play upon the wire mesh basket at an angle thereto and thus rotate same and thereby wash any photographic prints or film negatlves that have been placed in the basket. When said prints or negatives have been washed the basket is moved out of the pan by swinging bracket member D upward onits hinge N; v

. By means of this apparatus it will be seen i that photographic prints and film negatives may be easily and quickly washed and may be removed from the washing fluid without manual handling. Various changes in the form, proportion and minor details may be made without departing from the principle or scope of this invention.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is i 1. A photographic print washer comprising a pan, provided with a vertical opening in the side thereof, an upstanding tube, provided with a vertical opening, rigidly secured to the outside of said pan and adjacent Water'orjother washing fluid supply, said vthe opening in said pan, the above mening a pan, provided with a vertical openin the side thereof, a basket rotatably mounted in said pan, a tubular pocket rigldly secured to" the side of the pan adjacent the above mentioned opening, the tubular pocket being provided with a vertical opening which registers with the opening in the side of the pan, and a tubular member provided with longitudinalfperforations adapted'to be inserted in said pocket.

A photographic print washercomprising a pan, provided with a vertical opening in the side thereof,.a basket rotatably mounted in the pan, a tubular pocket rigidly secured to the side of the pan adjacent the opening in the side of said pan, the tubular pocket being provided with a vertical opening which registers with the opening in the side of the pan, a tubular member provided with a longitudinal series of perforations and adapted to beinserted in said pocket,
