To all whom it may conorn: I

Be it known that I, MICHAEL B. BOYLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of lllinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bathing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to bathing apparatus, and more particularly to shower-bath apparatus. Its'objects are, first, to provide a bathcabinet adapted to inclose the body of the bather, exclusive r of the head, and having therein suitable showering apparatus; second, to provide novel means for conveying the bather into the cabinet, and, third, to provide novel means for closely encircling the neck of the bather with a showering device. I accomplish these objects by the apparatus illustrated in the accompanying dra'wings, in which- Figure 1 is a top plan of a bathing appara- .tus constructed according to my invention having a carriage attachment for conveying the body of a person into the cabinet, the cabinet being pivotally supported so that it may be turned on end to bring the bather into Fig. 2 is an elevation of same, showing in dotted lines the upright position of the cabinet. Fig. 3 is a Vertical section of Fig. 2, taken on the line AA, but with the carriage pushed into the cabinet to the position indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 2. The cabinet 1 is pivotally supported at 14 on the standards 13. The carriage 4:, when drawn out of the cabinet, as shown in Fig. 2,

is supported upon the arms 8, which are pro-' vided with casters at their lower ends.

The track 10 is Secured in the cabinet. The casters 9 are Secured to the carriage, being supported by the frame 11, and run in the track 10 when the earriage is pushed into the cabinet.

The pipe 2 supplieswater to the cabinet, the inlet being at 18 and the outlet through the perforations or sprinkling-nozzles 15 and the tube 5, which is perforated. The valves 16 and 17 control the supply of water to the tube 5.

The carriage 4 is provided withahead-rest 6, which is adjusted by means of the pin 6' and the perforations 7' in the arm 7. The

oarriage is provided also With a foot-rest 12, which is adjusted by means of the staples 12" and the bolt 12', inserted in apertures 1" in the sides of the carriage, running in the slot 4' in the bottom of the earriage and having a binding-nut on the outer end.

The operation of the device is as follows: The person to be bathed lies outstretched in the carriage-body 4 with the head protruding through the port or aperture 3 in the end 3. The foot-rest is then adjusted so as to touch the feet. The carriage is then pushed into the cabinet. An operator on the outside then secures the tube 5 around'tle neck of the bather, coupling the free end 5' to the pipe 2 at 2'. The door 1' can be opened to permit the operator to insert his arm for coupling the tube 5, and also provides for cleaning the cabinet. The end piece 3, which is made of cloth or other pliable material, is fast-ened closely around the neck of the bather by means of the cords 20. The cabinet is then turned upon end on its bearings at 14 and rests upon the arms 19, bringing the bather to an upright position, after which water is supplied to the pipe 2, which is connected at 18 with a supply-pipe, preferably a flexible hose.

It will be understood that the details of the apparatus may be considerably varied without departing from the spirit of my invention. Among such details are the arrangement of the spraying apparatus, the Construction of and means for reducing the size of the aperture for the neck, and the support and construction of the carriage.

The cabinet is particularly designed to be used for both Russian and Turkish baths, as either water or vapor may be introduced through the showering apparatus. p

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. 'A bathing apparatus comprising a cabinet pivotally supported upon a substantially horizontal aXis, and adaptedto completely inclose the body of the bather; a track in the cabinet for supporting and guiding a carriage; a carriage adapted to receive the bather and to run on said track into the cabinet; an aperture in the 'cabinet adapted to be reduced to the size of the neck of the bather, permitting the bathers head to be outside of the IOO cabinet; and a pcrforated pipe in the eabinet adapted to provide :L shoWer-bath, substantially as described.

2. A bathing apparatus comprising a ertbinet pivotally supported upon a substantially horizontal axis Zt earriage adapted to receive the bather and to convey him into the cabinet; {L Wall near the outer end of the carriage adapted to close the cnbinet, and having :m npcrture therein adupted to be reduced to the size of the neek of the bather, permitting the bathefis head to be outside of the Gabimet; and a performed pipe in the cztbinet, adapted to provide a ShOWGP-btth, subst tntially as described.
