Description

w. E. SURFACE.
' CANDLETUBE SUPPORT.
APPLICATION FILED JAN-27,1916.
EIHQAMZA I M: g J
UNITED stains PATENT WILLIAM E. SURFACE, OF DECATUR, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO FARIES MANUFACTURING CO., OF DECATUR, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION 033 ILLINOIS.
GANDLE'TUBE SUPPORT.
Application filed January 27, 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. SURFAGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Decatur, in the county of Macon and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Candle-Tube Supports, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of devices which are designed to provide an adjustment for the length of the candle tube support in the electric lighting fixtures, and has for its object to provide a simpler form of construction than is at present on the market, and has for its further object to provide means to overcome the objectionable features present in devices of this kind, where the threaded end portions are formed separately from the adjustable portion and then secured in position.
My means of accomplishing the foregoing objects may be more readily understood by having reference to the accompanying drawings, which are hereunto annexed and are a part of this specification, in which:
Figure 1 is anisometric perspective view of my improvement.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation.
Fig. 3 is a cross section taken on the line ma: in Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a side elevation.
Similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the entire description.
As shown in the drawings, my candle tube support is formed of two tubes 5 and 6,
the tube 5 being fitted to and coinciding with the internal walls of the tube 6, and slidable therein. One-half of the side walls of each of the tubes is cut away, as clearly seen in Fig. 4:, and the ends 7 and 8 of the tubes are provided with threaded portions adapted to engage the socket at one end and the fixture nipple at the other. The tube 6 is provided with a slot 9 clearly shown in Fig. 2, while the tube 8, has set screw 10, mounted therein, said screw being fitted to and slidable in the slot 9.
The result of this construction is obvious. By loosening the screw, the tube 5 can be extended out as shown in the dotted lines in Figs. 1 and 2, or it is obvious the tube can be collapsed, so as to shorten the distance between the threaded portions 7 and Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 74,545.
8 and when set in the desired position by tightening the set screw 10, it is held firmly and securely in position. At the same time since the threaded portions 7 and 8 are formed integral with the portions of the tubes 5 and 6, it necessarily follows that no amount of twisting will operate to loosen the same.
It is obvious from the foregoing description that the length of the support can be varied to suit different lengths of candles, the adjustment being so simple that it can be quickly and easily made.
Having described my invention, what I regard as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A candle tube support comprising the combination of two tubes, each of said tubes having threads on one end, said threaded portion being integral with said tube and having part of their side walls cut away, one of said tubes being adapted to telescope the other, means to determine the regula tion of the distance between the threaded portions, and means to lock the tubes in the desired position.
2. A candle tube support comprising the combination of two tubes, each of said tubes having threads on one end, said threaded portion being integral with said tube and having part of their side walls cut away, one of said tubes being adapted to telescope the other, means to determine the regulation of the distance between the threaded portions, means to lock the tubes in the desired position, there being a slot cut in the outer tube and a set screw mounted in the other which is adapted to slide in the said slot, whereby the length of the support may be varied and then held in the desired posi tion.
3. A candle tube support comprising the combination of two tubes, one of which telescopes within the other, a portion of the side walls of each tube being cut away, threads out upon an integral portion of said tubes, means to regulate the distance be tween the threaded portions and means to lock the two'tubes together in the desired position.
In testimony whereof, I have signed the foregoing specification.
