To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J OSEPH WV. HALL, citizen of the United States, residing at Virginia, in the county of Cass and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Halter-Leads, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to certain improvements in halter leads, and it is an object of my invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character whereby that portion of the lead coactmg with the halter ring is eflectively protected against wear.

It is also an object of the invention to provide a device of this general character including a novel and improved attachment capable of convenient and effective engagement with an extremity of the lead, for protecting said lead against undue wear when operatively engaged with a halter ring, and which also affords a means for effecting the requisite engagement with a halter ring.

The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved halter lead whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

The novel features of the invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.

In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view in plan illustrating a halter lead having applied thereto an attachment constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention; and

Fig. 2 is a view in elevation of a device as herein set forth.

As disclosed in the accompanying drawings; L denotes a lead, of predetermined dimensions, and which is herein shown as of a rope type. Coacting with an extremlty of the lead L is my improved attachment A.

malleable iron bent into a hook formation and provided along its opposite longitudinal margins with the outstanding and laterally directed, pointed wings 2, adapted to be flexed about the adjacent end portion of the lead L, whereby it will be at once self-evident that said attachment A is effectively secured to the lead L. The outer end portion of the attachment A terminates beyond the opposite end thereof and said outer end portion is bent or rolled back, as at 3, to afford a barrel through which a locking ring 4: is loosely disposed.

The attachment A serves to form an end portion of the lead L into substantially a rigid hook member which is adapted to be engaged with a halter ring, and when the opposite end portion of the lead L is inserted through the locking ring 4, it will be at once self-evident that the lead L is effec tively engaged with the halter.

From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a halter lead constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice, except as hereinafter claimed.

I claim:
