used above the receptavle 34. To Stllllc the lies-t results, the vaporization of oil and com bastion should occur at the dome 7 of the priming pan, and on account of the heated metallic parts, oil is' vaporized as soon as it enters the priming pan or substantially so. By use of a needle valve (not shown) the supply of oil which enters the am, din-lag combustion, may be uniform am limited in 10 inantity. It will he appreciated however that if, from snddendrafts of air or from other causes, combustion should reuse, the l'e'sultin overflow and flooding of lhe premises wit u oil might cause damage to propm-ty or endanger propert to loss hy-lire. Also, in' some instances, fl om 1l,lill1l\"0f skill in management, thefiow provided to the primingpan may he so great that the oil will not he vaporized, which also will result in an ove1'fl01iv.,- :,.j T In,theaiperation of the device it .will lll. seen 'thafiif there is an undue low ofoll, it may partly fill the priming pan, but before the pan is filled with theoil it will he (ondueted to the reeeptavle 24, whirh, on ac- 'eountbf the resulting; additional weight of .611, will swing downwardly, and the catch 22'tlicreupon will lie-released. The release ofjhe catch will permit retractiinrof the T80 sp1'ii1g.12-wl1ioli results in an innneiliate c e snre of the valve 9, to prevent any additional flow-of oil '(hronghthe supply pipe 8. L fSfii Qairshonld he-delivered immediately above the dome, 7', to aid combustion, means axe p'ri'ivided to prevent air' from pa'ssin ii through the pipe 25 as a coiinter draft, Stilt means consisting of a ball valve 26 disposed between. the intake and idischarge. .mrts of said pipe. Also in the/f1 eration of uirning the as, decomposed car on will form to a gl'ea or less'oxtent in the priming pan and'f'willenterthe pipe 25, and normally,
will be moved downward to the ball valve, and therefore the salve housin for this ,valve is provided with the short tu es 27 and 28,- these being disposed in ,yertieal alinei'nent,
i l the tula- 27 of lesser diameter provnlin the valve seat and the tnho 28, prelerahl v, |a\-' ing a greater diameter [him thv ball valve, so that said valve may he removed. By the (onstrnetion as drsvrihcd, the interior of the tubes may he conveniently vleancd wlwncver required. their screw-raps a heiug removed for this purpose.
A rercss Ht is formed in the linlLlll llllllwar between its ends. so that the end of the valve stem Ill may make snitahle'engagemen't withsaiil link and will not 'heronie delaohrd thcrel'rmn, when the spring It! is ronr pressed. l v adjusting the. nut l6 longitudinail of the valve stem, the spring may have. a greater orlesser dvgrcc of compression, and this is a wry useful feature since the engagement of the catelnis with the latches may not he uniform, and the weight of receptacles 2-l or lengths of arms (1 ol' the catches, when manal'aetm ed or used, may
not he uniform.
What i rlainr-and desire-lo secure by Lettors l atent is A safety device for the purpose described, miniprising, in combination with the oil supply pipe of the priming pan, a valve provided with a stem and disposed ll'l the'sup ply pipe, a spring mounted on the stem, a
llexihle latrh engaging the stem for rompressing the spring, a. catch provided with a reee :tarle and arranged for engagin r with the ateh to normally nnuntainthe va vc detached from its seat,'a condurting pi me ha \a ing an intake in comniihiication with the priming pan and having its dischar'e port disposed adjacent to and ahovesaid rrce taelo, and a cheek valve between the intalce and discharge ports of the condurting pipe. 1n testimony whereof, 1 have allixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
