CLOTHES-PIN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 21, 1917.
Application filed September 13, 1316, Serial No. 119,973. Renewed July 12, 1917. Serial No. 180,241.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUs'rAvn F. E. ANDER- son, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain useful Improvements in Clothes-Pins, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
The invention relates to clothes pins, and more particularly to the class of line clothes pins.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a clothes pin of this character wherein the construction permits the hanging of the same upon a clothes line, so that the possible loss or misplacing of the pin is eliminated, and which will securely fasten the clothes upon said line without the accidental falling or the blowing of the clothes from the line.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a pin of this character wherein the construction is novel in form, so that the same can be readily attached to or removed from a clothes line, and when on the said line, cannot become lost or accidentally detached therefrom, the pin being loose upon the line to permit the position of the same at any point thereof for the fastening of the clothes upon said line with despatch.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a clothes pin of this character which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and eflicient in its purpose, readily and easily applied to and removed from the line, and inexpensive in manufacture. With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended- In the accompanying drawing Figure l is a perspective of the invention applied to a portion of a clothes line- Fig. 2 is a plan View of the pin detached from the line.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, A
designates a portion of a clothes line, upon which is detachably mounted the clothes pin 13, hereinafter fully described.
The clothes pin comprises preferably a pair of wires 5 and 6 respectively, having the required rigidity and resiliency, which are inter-coiled or wrapped together at intermediate points to form a twisted portion 7, which unites the wires and this twisted portion 7 serves as a hand-hold.
The wires on one side of the hand-hold 7 are bent at substantially right angles thereto, to form a pair of divergent resilient gripping fingers 8, having slightly outwardly bent terminals9,to afford a wide entrance between the resilient fingers 8, which serve to fasten an article of clothing upon the line A when said clothing is placed thereon.
At the opposite side of the hand-hold 7, the ends of the wires are bent to form an elongated right angular loop 10, with the terminals 11 of the end portions of the wire meeting each other to provide a break in the loop 10 for permitting the line A to be inserted within said loop 10 or removed therefrom, in the attaching of the clothes pin, upon the line or its removal therefrom, as will be obvious.
The elongated loop 10 permits free move ment of the clothes pin longitudinally upon the line A, and also the insertion of the said line A between the resilient fingers 8, which serveto fasten an article of clothing upon the line when the clothes pin is in use for this purpose.
From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction and manner of use of the clothes pin will be clearly understood, and therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted.
What is claimed is A clothes pin comprising a pair of wires, twisted together intermediate their ends to form a hand-hold, and divergent resilient fingers bent from the wires at one side of the twisted portion, and an elongated loop bent from the wires at the opposite sides of the twisted portions thereof, said loop being provided with an opening formed at the terminals adjacent each other of the end portion of the wires. 7
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
GUSTAVE F. E. ANDERSON.
