HANG-ER FOR TEMPORARY GIRDER AND BEAM FORMS.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it'known that I, EDWARD O. KEATOR, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Cincinnati, inthe county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful ImprovementinuI'Iangers for Temporary Girder 'and Beam` Forms, of which the following is a specification.
An object of my invention is to produce an improved beam or girder form hanger for the temporary form work of concrete incased steel structures.
A further object is to produce a beam or girder form hanger for the temporary form work of concrete incased lsteel structures, which will secure the form in posi tion to receive concrete and which will space it properly with relation to the steel beam or girder to be incased, simultaneously With the securing operation.
These and other objects are attained in the hanger described in the following speci# ficaton and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which;
Figure 1 is a perspective side view of av hanger embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a` perspective end view of the hanger illustrated in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of a concrete incased steel beam or girder having my improved form hangers in position and supporting temporary form work employed in the concrete incasing operation, certain details of the hanger being omitted in this view.
My improved vform is designed to be attached ,to the lower flanges of structural steel members, such as I-beams, which are usually employed j in such structures for girder and beam purposes. The hanger embodying my invention consists of a U- shaped clamp member 4 adapted to receive one flange of the I-beam, as disclosed in Fig. 3, the upper portion of the clamp being provided` with a serrated inclined surface 5 adapted to engage ythe upper surface of a lower flange of the I-beam. Immediately 'below this serrated surface a ,lug 6 is formed, this lug being internally screw threaded to receive the screw threads of a bolt 7 the upper end of which is adapted to be brought into clamping engagement with the end surface of the I-beam. A web 8 isf formed on the clamp member for the purpose of strengthening it as well as lightening it. In Figs. 1 and 2 I have shown my Specification of Letters Patent.

loosened. The Vhooks are omitted in the construction disclosed in Fig. 3.
In using my improved hanger the heads of the bolts are employed for supporting the temporary form work to mold the concrete around the I-beam and the len th of the bolts is such as to permit of s cient concrete occupying the space between the flanges 9 with which the hangers coperate, and the lower board 10 ofthe temporary form work. In the usual temporary form work, battens 11 are employed for supporting the lower board 1() aswell as the side boards 12 of the form. In addition to thisl the floor slab forming boards 13 are sup, ported from the side boards 12, so that the 'weight of the entire temporary structure, as
well as the liquid concrete contained therein, is supported by the bolts 7. In order to vary the thickness of lconcrete surrounding the I-beam it is merely necessary to cha-nge the lengths of the bolts with which the hangers are secured to the lower flanges of the I-beam, thereby bringing the heads4 14 of the bolts at a greater or less distance from the Lbeam, as desired.
In dismantling the form work supported by my improved form Awork hanger, the bolts 7 are unscrewed from the clamp members 4 and from the hardened concrete surroundingtheir screw threaded ends. This leaves the form work in condition to be removed from adherence with the concrete incasing the structural steel member. Because ofthe concrete having hardened around the clamp members 4, these members are left embedded therein. The openings left after removal of the bolts, may be closed with plugs or they may be left for the reception of bolts or hangers employed for supporting pipes and similar fixtures.
Having thus described my invention, what I. claim is:
' l. In combination with a temporary beam or girder form for structural steel beams or girders to be in cased with concrete, a hanger comprising a U-shaped vvclamp member adapted to receive between its branches a flange of the structural steel member to be incased, with the upper surface of the or girder form for structural beam or steel flange in engagement with the upper branch thereof, and a heagled bolt of predeterminedlength, mounted in the lower branch of the clamp Amember, adapted to secure the clamp member to the flange to support a form in engagement with the head ofthe bolt and in spaced relation to the structural steel member by being brought into engagement with the under surface of the ilange. l
2. In combination With a temporary beam girders to be incased in concrete, a hanger comprismg a U-shaped clamp member having one of its branches adapted to engagel a flange of the structural steel member, a lug formed on the opposite branch and having an interlorly screw threaded passage adapted to receive the screw threads of a bolt, a headed bolt of predetermined length located in the passage and adapted to have 20 its end brought into engagement with the flange to clamp a flange of the structural steel member between it and the coperating branch of the clamp member, the head of said bolt being adapted to support the 25 EDWARD O'. KEATOR.
