IMPROVEMENT IN BAG-HOLDERS.
Speciication forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,684, dated February 13, 1872.
Specification describing a new and Improved Bag-Holder, invented by GE ORGE W. DUNGAN and WARREN WAssoN, of Genoa, in the county l struction. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Our invention has for its object to furnish an improved device for holding bags, sacks, Ste., while being filled with grain or other substances, and which shall be simple in con struction and convenient in use; and it consists in the construction and combination of the various parts of the machine, as hereinafter more fully described.
A are four posts or standards, the lower ends of which are securely attached to the four cornersof the base-frame B. O is the movable bottom, which moves up and down on the standards A, which thus serve as guides. The ends of the movable bottom G, when fully lowered, rest upon the cleats D, attached to the outer sides of the lower ends of the side posts A, and which rise a little above the stationary bottom or base-frame B, to prevent the movable bottom C from resting upon the baseA frame B. To each end of the movable bottom C, near its corners, are attached the lower ends of two straps, E, the upper ends of which are brought together, and are attached to a lever, F. The levers F are pivoted to the outer sides of the front posts A. The inner ends of the levers F overlap the outer sides of the rear posts A, so that they may catch upon pins, screws, notches, ratchet-teeth, or other stops, G, to support the movable bottom O at any desired elevation. By this construction the mov- PATENT OFFICE,
able bottom C may be adjusted at any desired elevation, according to the length of the bag or sack to be filled, or raised and lowered to settle the grain in said bags or sacks, or raised to enable the iilled bag or sack to be more conveniently removed. The flexible straps E also enable the levers F to be turned up into avertical position along the outer sides of the posts A, so as to be out of the way when not required for use. The upper ends of the posts A are connected and held in their proper relative positions by cross-,bars H upon three sides of the holder, the fourth or front side being left free, for convenience in putting in and taking out the bags or sacks. To the upper ends of the posts A are attached knobs or buttons I to pass through vholes in the straps J. To the lower or inner ends of the strapsJ are attached hooks K, upon which the bag or sack to be filled is hooked. Several holes are formed in the straps J to receive the buttons I, so that the said straps J may be adjusted according to the length or size of the bag or sack to be iilled.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the movable bottom O, flexible straps E, levers F, stops G, perforated straps J, hooks K, and knobs or buttons I, with the frame-workA B D H, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
