To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MANFORD HORN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Appleton, in the county of Swift and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Tag, of which the following is a specification.

The device forming the subject matter ofv this application is a tag adapted to be employed for labeling exhibits at an exposition.

The tag is so constructed that a guard is adapted to be folded upon the body of the tag, thereby to cover and shield the name and address of the exhibitor during the progress of the exposition. The guard is formed integrally with a sealing strip which is attached to the forward face of the body to hold the guard in place. Formed integrally with the sealing strip is a claim check which is folded downwardly and overlaps the sealing strip and the guard.

The present invention aims to provide a novel means whereby the claim check may be detached readily, independently of the sealing strip and the guard, and to provide a construction whereby the guard may be detached independently of the sealing strip and the claim check, the claim check remaining connected with the body portion of the tag when the guard is removed, and the guard and the sealing strip remaining connected with the body of the tag when the claim check is removed.

It is within the scope of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of'devices of that type towhich the present invention appertains.

With the above and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides inthe combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made with-' in the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

y n carrying out the present invention there is provided a tag denoted generally by the numeral 1 and comprising a body 2 provlded adjacent one end 3 with primary data 4 concerning the article to be exhibited. The body 2 is provided adjacent its other end 5 with secondary data 6 concerning the exhibitor, the two sets 4-6 of data being separated to define a sealing strip 7. A flap 8 is hinged as shown at 9 to said other end 5 of the body 2 and is provided with two transverse lines 1011 of perforations. The perforations divide the flap 8 into a claim check 12 at the free end of the flap 8, a guard 14 at the hinged end of the flap 8, and a sealing strip 15 between the claim check 12 and the guard 14. The sealing strip 15 is coated upon its forward face with an adhesive 16; the guard 14: being folded inwardly as shown at 17 alon the line 9 u on the body 2 to hide the secondary data 6. he adhesive 16 on the sealing strip 15 is engaged body 2 alon the sealing strip 7, the claim check 12 eing folded outwardly as at 19 along the line of perforations'10 upon the sealing strip 15, and the guard 14. Noting particularly t e perforations 11 and 10, it will be observed that the claim check 12 may be torn ofi' without detaching the sealing strip 15 or the guard 14 from the body- 2. Similarly, a cut may be made along the hinged union 9, whereupon the guard may be detached along the line of perforations 11, the sealing strip 15 and the claim chack 12 remaining on the body 1. The guard 14 may be inscribed upon its rear face as shown at 20, with directions fable along its hinged union 9 with the body relative to the use of the guard. As shown at 21, the forward face of the claim check 12 may carry suitable directions relative to the use of this element of the structure.

The entire tag preferably is fashioned from a'suitable grade of cardboard and may be Iprovided with a reinforced eye 22.

n Fig. 5 of the drawings a slight modification of the invention is shown. In Fig. 5 the body of the tag is shown at 23, the guard at 24, the sealing strip at 25, the adhesive at 26 and the claim check at 27. The

perforations which define the sealing strip 25 are shown at 28. The line of perforations indicated at 29 may replace the fold 9 of Fig. 1. The perforations shown at 29 are the sole distinguishing characteristic of the device shown in Fig. 5.

As clearly indicated by the reference character 100 certain markings on the body portion of the tag are duplicated on the claim check.' These markings permit each exhibitor of articles to be distinguished readily for identification-upon presentation of the claim check after the latter has been severed. The markings indicated at 100 of course may be of any desired form.

The guard 14 is securely held in place, during the judging of the exhibit, so as to hide the name and the address of the exhibitor at 6. After the prizes have been awarded, the guard may be detached as hereinbefore stated. The name and address of the exhibitor, is, therefore, in the interest of fairness, hidden before an award is made, but is exposed to the public after the award has been made.

aeaaae Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is An exhibition tag comprising a body provided adjacent one end with primary data concerning the article to be exhibited, and

provided adjacent its other end with secondmy data concerning the exhibitor, the two sets of data bein separated to define a sealing strip; there %eing a fla hinged to said other end of the body an provided with two transverse lines of erforations dividing the flap into a claim-check at the free end of the flap, a guard at the hinged end of the flap, and a' sealing-strip between the claimcheck and the guard, one sealing-strip bein coated upon its forward face with an ad esive; the guard being folded inwardly upon the body to hide the secondary data, and to bring the sealing-strips together, the claim-check being folded outwardly upon the flap-carried sealing-strip and the guard along one'line of the perforations, the guard being severable along its hinged union with the body and along the other line of perforations independently of the sealing-strip and the claim-check, and the claim-check being severable along the first specified line of perforations independently of the flapcarried sealing-strip and the guard.
