Be it known that l, CHARLES BnEws'rEn STEELE, a citizen ot the United States of America, residing at New York, in the county ot New York and State ot New York, nave invented certain new and useful improvements in Tickets, of which the following is a specification.

My invention is a ticket combining within its constructive embodiment and spirit an intrinsic system of commerce, exchange, and interchange of values, in which its plurality or" distinctive elemental features in their .combinative entirety form and constitute a complete structural device and united systematic science ot mercantile reciprocation, and consists of the following peculiar and essential constituents: A detachably secured iront wall and surface adapted for the disposal and display thereon ot suitable spaces, compositions, notationsy insignia, tabulations, individuate appellation, and identic characterization denoting values; top and bottom walls and surfaces adapted for the disposition and display thereon of suitable composition, notations, intercalation, and insignia; end wall surfaces, adjustably, or otherwise, constructed and adapted for the disposal and display upon either end thereof suitably designed and detachably secured tokens inscribed with indicia denoting values and instalments o1"- value; a repository, or pocket, adapted for the depositing and holding therein ot' any suitable and desirable articles, commodity, or merchandise; a rear wall and surface adapted for the disposal and display thereon of suitable compositions, notations, and insignia of the ticket; a system of individuate serials, or classes, of issue; a systematic series of sequacious individuate instalments confined individually to each serial, or class issue; a system et delined proportionate values of each serial. issue with each series of instalments; a system of plurality of proportioned values of issue and exchange; a sysn tem of plurality ot proportioned values of issue, exchange, and liquidation; a system ot numerical, or character appellation ot each serial, or class issue; a system of indin viduate appellation of each serial, or class issue; a system ot combined numerical and proper name individualism of each serial, or class issue; a system of numerical, or

character, reciprocal identification of each unit of value; a system detecting attempts to disarrange or despoil any of the systems, integrities, or values ot the ticket; and representation of the residuary value of the ticket, cach system so coperatingly coacting with each other system that they automatically merge into a major system that prevails throughout and controls the entire operation and commerce of the ticket, all of which is hereinafter more fully described in the speciticatien, designated in the claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which like letters represent like parts in the different iigures, respectively.

rl`he letter, A, represents a preferred form of my ticket, which may be constructed and shaped from a single material, any plurality of materials, or combination of materials, and produced in and of any suitable and desirable configuration, design, type, or shape, and notations, compositions, insignia, and indicia, and whatever thereto may apply, and of whatever suitable and desirable character and nature, may be embossed, stamped, shaped, engraved, printed, or otherwise, suitably and desirably disposed and displayed in any manner and location upon said ticket, and though Figs. l, 2, 3, and 4, of the drawings, illustrate a preferred form of my ticket, the scope of my invention is not confined to and does not include any special or specific form or embodiment of my device, but does include the full broad principle of any and all modifications that do embrace and are capable of interpreting the entire spirit and full advantages of my invention.

llhe letter, B, represents a plurality and series of spaces, preferably disposed, ar-

i ranged, and proportioned'on the front wall surface, C, of the ticket, and extending within a suitable distance thereon, each of said spaces, B, being provided with a numeral,'D, of the same and identical denomination, and each space, B, being adapted to be filled and covered by a suitable and desirably inscribed and detachably secured token, E, preferably and initially disposed, displayed, and proportioned on the outer surface of either of the end walls, F, F, or repository retainers of the ticket, which said end F, is preferably provided with a suitable and detachably secured token blank, G, formed of the end F, upon which token blank, G, the token E, is adapted to be attached, conform, and register, said token E, being constructed of any suitable, appropriate, and approximate size, shape, and configuration conformable to and registering with the size, shape, and configuration of each of the token spaces, B. Said token, E, is provided near its edges with identifying numerals, H, or other suitable identic media, which numerals, H, are of the same identity and denomination as the numerals, D, that are disposed and displayed on each of the token spaces, B, said numerals D, of the token spaces, B, and said numerals, H, of the tokens, E, all thus correlatively and numerically corresponding each with the other, and identifying the token, E, with the token spaces, B, said identic numerals D, and H, also performing another function and important service as the particular representative numerical appellative designating and distinguishing the name, business, and address of one distributer and his naine, business and address from another and different dispenser, or distributer of the ticket.

The token, E, is detachably secured and is outlined by suitably weakened delineations, or perforations, I, adapted for its ready and expeditious detachment, and said token, E, is gummed on its reversed surface for its adaptation of being expeditiously stuck upon and adhered to one of the token spaces, B, of the detachable front wall, C, provided with the token spaces, B, that when filled with the requisite quantity of tokens, E, becomes the exchange check, C', but it will be noted that any type of package may be employed, and that any style and character of tokens, or coupons, may be placed, disposed, deposited, aggregated, collected, re-

deemed, and utilized therewith, comprising, involving, and including a plurality of packages divided into a plurality of distinctive classes and series bearing a common designation, the designation of each distinctive class being different from that of any other distinctive class, a surface of a package carrying a statement that a value is redeemable for a fixed `amount depending upon a fixed number of coupons, without departing from the intent, spirit, scope, and broad principle of my invention. The letters J, and K, respectively, represent the top and bottom walls of the tick-et, adapted for the disposalV and display thereon of suitable intercalary compositions and denotations designatory of the ticket and its business, and the letter, L, represents the repository, or pocket, constituting one of the units of the ticket, adapted foi-'the depositing and holding therein of any suitable and desirable article, commodity, or merchandise, and the letter, M, represents the rear or opposite wall of the ticket adapted for the disposal and display thereon of suitable and desirable designatory composition, notations, and insignia, the repository, L, or pocket, being formed by the structure and walls, of the ticket, and the ticket and its repository may be preferably shaped, cut out, and made of a single piece of material, or continuous integrant blank, such as the invention disclosed in the accompanying drawing by the Figs. l, 2, 3, and 4l, or may be constructed and manufactured in any otlier'manner, and of other design, without departing` from the spirit and principle of my invention.

The letters, N, O, P, and Q, represent spaces at the extreme corners on the front wall of the ticket located above and below .t two of the most distant of the series of token spaces B, and are provided with numerals B, S, T, and U, adapted to denote and preserve the integrity of said token spaces B, and insure immediate detection of absence or mutilation of said such outer of the series of token spaces, B, and spaces a, l), c, CZ, e, f, g, and 7L, each provided with a system of spaces and consecutive numerals, are located above and below the intermediate token spaces, B, for instance, as 2, 3, a, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and are likewise adapted to denote the presence and preserve the integrity of the intermediate token spaces, B, of the exchange check, C, on the wall, C, and for the ready detection of the absence, or mutilation of any of said intermediate token spaces, B, thus insuring the presence of the required full complement of tokens, E, and the required full series of token spaces, B, upon the exchange check, C', of the ticket.

lThe letter, V, represents a space located above the token spaces, B, and extending across the ticket from and to the corner spaces, N, and O, adapted to accommodate Vand hold appropriate composition and insignia. distinguishing and identifying an individual name, and business, or occupation, and local address, designating such distributer and his individual identity with the ticket, and the similar and parallel space, W, located below the token spaces, B, and extending across the ticket to and from the corner spaces, P, and Q, is adapted to accommodate compositions and insignia similarly denoting and identifying the name, individuality, and local address of said dispenser, or distributer, on and with the ticket.

The letter, X, represents the structural surface, of a lamelliferous nature, as an integral part, or otherwise, of the ticket, and of the same, or other material, and upon the front thereof, as indicated by the letter, C', may be disposed and displayed the spaces, B, N, 0,1), Q, a, l), c, CZ, e, f, g, t, V, and lV, that compose that part of the complement, said structure, X, being adapted to beprovided with the extensions, or wings, adapted to pass around and beyond the ends, F, F,

lapping over upon and suitably securable to y the rear wall, M, as indicated at Z, Z, which method of manufacture and production of a complete instalment ticket of such form, facilitates a most economic and novel means of individualizing the ticket, by denoting thereon compositions, insignia, matter, and indicia, and tokens of value signifying and singulariz-ing an individuate name, business, address, and location, on the ticket, and also accomplishing the additional functions of rendering1 the ticket compact and secure, sealing it against depredation and spoliation, and insuring the detection of its mutilation or displacement, while weakened delineations, or perforations thereon, that register with the perforations, or weakened delineations likewise disposed on the walls and parts of the ticket, facilitates the expeditious detachment of its detachable portions and the convenient utilization of the detachable Lexchange check, C for purposes and requirements of the ticket and its unique and novel system of commerce, each and all of the elements and units of this ticket fulfilling, performing, and achieving their respective functions, while their combinative functions and coactive systems of relation with each other cause each to perform functions in addition to their own functions.

My ticket is applicable and adaptable to an extensive variety of purposes, but for its employment by places of amusement, for instance, would be issued, dispensed, and distributed by means of its system of separately classed serials, wherein each of such serial classes solely comprise the single and exclusive personality, iinlividuality, and identity of the individual name, business, and local address of such individual distributer of such identic serial class of the ticket, and each suoli exclusively individual identic serial cf such class of serials, is composed of pluralities of series, for instance, of ten instalments of value, each single instalment of each series of ten instalments having a plurality of other values. @ne of the plurality of values of one of a. single instalment of value being a tenth ,f) portion of the residuary value of the ticket, denoted on each of such ten instalment packets, of the ticket, by the token, E, which one (--l) tenth portion of the residuary value of the ticket is made redeemable by the consolidation of all of such ten residuary portions of the residuary value into a sum total of residuary lvalue by the aggregated assemblage and proper attachment of ten of the tokens, E, upon the ten token spaces, B, of the exchange check.

The modas operandi of one of the uses of my ticket, for instance, would be, substantially, as follows: The John Doe Hippodrome, Number S, 333 Blank avenue, Manhattan, N. Y., would issue this ticket as its own, serial of class S, in series of ten duplicate instalments, the numeral 8, thus being stalment bearing the individual,

the distinguishing exponent of this particular exclusive serial class of said John Doe Hippodrome, said numeral 8 being, also, the identic character mutually identifying all the elements of the ticket with each other, this particular serial class, Number S, being exclusively individual of the said John Doe Hippodrome Number 8, and thereby distinctively dii'l'erent from all the other serial classes of my ticket, suoli, for instance, as the different serial class of the Richard Roe Theater, Number 9, which class 9, would thence likewise be the exclusively individual serial class 9, exclusively identic of the Richard Boe Theater.

A purchaser of a single instalment of any series of the instalments, for instance, of the John Doe Hippodrome, of the serial class, Number S, would secure a one (6) iny name, business, and local address of the John Doe Hippodrome Number 8, comprising the packet provided with the exchange check blank, and diagramic special divisions expressive of the values, purposes, and the valuable contents of the ticket, for the sum of four and cents, and for the additional sum of one of one cent added would secure the one (J-) portion of the residuary value of the ticket. By transferring and attaching ten of the tokens E, to ten of the token spaces, B, of the diagramic member of the ticket, in compliance with the stipulations and performance of the agreements governing the issue, sale, and use of the ticket, the ten instalment portions of residuary value are thereby consolidated into the total residuary value, acceptable on sight by the .-lohn Doe Hippodrome, Number S, for the value of five (5) cents for admission to the John Doe Hippodrome, Number 8, and its privileges. Thus the numeral 8, is the special denominator identic of all the elements of serial class 8, of the ticket and nu- A merical appellative mark of trade of the John Doe Hippodrome, and its distinctive serial, and class, and the novel arrangement of diagramic spacings and relation of the numeral 8 therewith forming a combination of elements of mutual operation, individual identity, and commercial productiveness, by which the purchaser fully participates in the values and benefits of the ticket with its distributer, while the John Doe Hippodrome derives the special advantage of unique advertising and publicity on the most cordial and agreeable basis between the John Doe Hippodrome and purchasers of this ticket.

The system of numerical mutual and cooperative identiiication facilitates the instantaneous recognition of the individuality of the serial to which the ticket belongs, and the simultaneous perception that all the spaces and devices of the ticket are present and intact, and that the spaces, B, have been properly filled with the tokens, E, thereby rendering it unnecessary for a ticket taker to scrutinize ticket nomenclature, the full exposure to view of the token, E, notations, compositions, and insignia, defeating whatever attempts might be made to practise deception with the ticket, an additional safeguard being provided, in the preferred form, by the imperative necessity of breaking the structure of the ticket, before, and, in order to detach the tokens, E, as well as the necessity of despoiling the structure of the ticket to disunite the exchange check C', for utilization of and liquidation of the residuary values of the ticket, and also, as this correlative system of numerical appellation, title, and mutual identification maintains throughout the entire science of assem blage and operation lof the ticket, it is impossible to commit the error, or preconception, of attaching tokens, E, denominative of one certain place of amusement, and its individual serial bearing, for instance, the numeral S, to token spaces, B, or exchange check C of a ticket bearing the numeral, for instance, 9, of another different place of amusement, having and employing a dierent serial, without detection that such ticket bears wrong tokens, and is of a different serial class from that of the John Doe Hip-Y podrome, Number 8.

To further elucidate the distinctive differ ence between each serial class and the distinctive difference of issue of each serial class, of this ticket, should, for instance, such John Doe Hippodrome, Number 8, 333 Blank avenue, Manhattan, N. 17., also, conduct several other shows in the same borough of Manhattan, each such show would operate this ticket by one of its distinctive serial classes, as, for instance, John Doe Hippodrome, Number 12, 999 Bowery, Manhattan; John Doe Hippodrome, Number 14, 777 Driveingtonstreet, Manhattan; John Doe Hippodrome, Number 16, 484C Astorbilt street, Manhattan, thus .class 8, class 12. class 1&1, and class 16, would each 'consti tute a separate serial class distinctively individual of the particular John Doe placev of amusement to which its own individual identic numeral specially and solely referred and exclusively belonged. v

However, the utility of my ticket is not limited to places of amusement, and without departing from the principle and spirit of my invention, is adapted to be utilized by any and all enterprises wherever admission is obtained by pay, or compliment, by all branches of industry disposing of or dis-V pensing merchandise, goods, commodities, and proprietary articles of value, trade, or otherwise, in whatsoever way or manner the uses and purposes of my ticket is applicable or suggestive.

ticket, A, provided with a token, b', formed by an extension of the end cover, c, and the token spaces and other spaces, on the front wall of the ticket, provided with identifying characters.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

1. A ticket having a statement that it is redeemable for value at a fixed amount depending upon the number of coupons carried thereby, and provided with indicia denoting. the number name and address of the party to honor the ticket, also provided with a definite plurality of delineated spaces to receive coupons numbered consecutively and each having a number identical in value with that designating the ticket as a whole,

2. A ticket having a statement that it is redeemable for value at a liXed amount depending upon the number of coupons carried thereby, and provided with indicia denoting the number name and address of the party to honor the ticket, also provided with a definiteplurality of delineated spaces to receive coupons numbered consecutively and each having a number identical in value with that designating the` ticket as a whole, in combination with coupons bearing the same number as the number of the ticket as a whole andv provided with means tov attach each coupon to the ticket in one of the said .ill

spaces and furthermore provided with a pocket to hold merchandise.

3. A ticket having a statement that it is redeemable for value at a fixed amount depending upon the number of coupons carried thereby, and provided with indicia denoting the number, name and address of the party to honor the ticket, also provided with a definite plurality of delineated spaces to receive coupons numbered consecutively and each having a number identical in value with that designating the ticket as a whole, and a coupon in each and every coupon space on the ticket and furthermore provided with a pocket to hold merchandise.

A carton comprising a body portion consisting of opposite side members connected by an end member, an end member opposite thereto comprising a iiap forming a closure for said end, the body of the carton being provided with means detachable therefrom by weakened lines, said means :arrying a statement that it is redeemable for value at a iXed amount depending upon the number of coupons attached thereto, and provided with indicia denoting the indi viduate number, name and address of the party to honor the ticket.

5. A carton comprising a body portion consisting of opposite side members connected by an end member, an end member opposite thereto comprising a Hap forming a closure for said end, the body of the carton being provided with means detachable therefrom by weakened lines, said means carrying a statement that it is redeemable for value at a fixed amount depending upon the number of coupons attached thereto, and provided with indicia denoting the indi* viduate number, name and address of the party` to honor the ticket, said body portion bearing another means detachable therefrom on weakened lines, said latter means bearing the same number as the number of the ticket as a whole and serving as a coupon, said coupon provided with means to attach each coup on to the ticket in one of the said spaces.

6. A plurality of tickets divided into a plurality of distinctive series, the tickets of each series bearing a common designating character, the designating character of each series being different from that of any other series, each ticket of an individual series comprising a structure of requisite walls to form a pocket for merchandise, the surface of a wall bearing a statement of redeemableness for value at a fixed amount depending upon the number of coupons aggregating the value of said redeemable fixed amount,

A plurality of tickets divided into a plurality of distinctive series, the tickets of each series comprising a structure of Walls that form a pocket for holding merchandise, the surface of a Wall of the pocket displaying individual advertising mattei' different from the individual advertising matter displayed on a Wall of the pocket of the tickets of a different series, a Wall of the pocket bearing a statement of redeemableness for value at a fixed amount depending upon the number of coupons aggregating the value of said fixed amount, the tickets being also provided with a coupon representing a proportion of the redeemable value of said fixed amount, and means denoting a procedure for aggregating the number of coupons upon Which the redeemable fixed amount depends for redemption.

8. A ticket divided into a plurality of distinctive classes each class divided into a plurality of separate series, each class and its plurality of series bearing a common individuate designating character different from the designating character of any other class and its plurality of series, Walls constructed to form a pocket for holding merchandise, the surface of a Wall of the pocket carrying a statement that a value is redeemable for a fixed amount depending upon a fixed' number of coupons, each coupon of every fixed number of coupons representing a proportion of the redeemable value of the fixed amount.

9. A ticket divided into a plurality of distinctive classes, each class divided into pluralities of separate series each class and its pluralities of separate series bearing a name and address different from the name and address of any other class and its pluralities of separate series, Walls and members constructed to form a pcket to hold merchandise, a surface of a Wall of the pocket carrying a statement that a value is redeemable for a fixed amount depending upon a fixed number of coupons, the surface of another Wall of the pocket bearing advertising matter individuate of the name and address of its distinctive class, each coupon of every fixed number of coupons representing a portion of the redeemable value of the fixed amount.

10. A plurality of packages each package provided with a body portion and members constructed to form a receptacle to hold merchandise, the plurality of packages being divided into a plurality of distinctive series bearing a common designating character, the designating character of each distinctive series being different from that of any other series, a surface of a package carrying a statement that a value is redeemable for a fixed amount depending upon a xed number of coupons, each package being provided With a coupon representing a proportion of the redeemable value of the fixed amount and bearing the same designating character commonvof its distinctive series` 11. A plurality of packages each package provided with a body portion and members constructed to form a receptacle to hold merchandise, the plurality of packages being divided into a plurality of distinctive series bearing a common name and address, the name and address of each distinctive series being different from that of any other distinctive series, the surface of a package carrying a statement that a value is redeemable for a fixed amount depending upon a lixed number of coupons, each package being provided with a coupon representing a proportion of the redeemable value of the fixed amount and bearing the same name and address common of its distinctive series.

12. A plurality of packages each package provided with a body portion and members constructed to form a receptacle to hold merchandise, the plurality of packages being divided into a plurality of distinctive series bearing a common designating character name and address, the designating character name and address of each distinctive series being different from that of any other distinctive series, the surface of a package carrying a statement that a value is redeemable for a fixed amount depending upon a fixed number of coupons, each package being provided with a coupon representing a proportion of the redeemable value of the fixed amount bearing the same designating character name and address common of its distinctive series.

13. A plurality of packages each package provided with a body portion and members constructed to form a receptacle to hold merchandise, the plurality of packages being divided into a plurality of distinctive series bearing a common designating character name and address, the designating character name and address of each distinctive series being different from that of any other distinctive series, a surface of a package carrying a statement that a value is redeemable for a fixed amount depending upon a fixed number of coupons, each package being provided With a coupon representing a proportion of the redeemable value of the fixed amount and bearing the same identical designating character common of the name and address of its distinctive series.

A plurality of packages, each package provided with a body portion and members constructed to form a receptacle to hold merchandise, the plurality of packages being divided into a plurality of distinctive classes, the packages of each distinctive class bearing a common designating character, the designating character of each distinctive class being different from that of any other statement that a value is redeemable for a lixed amount depending upon a fixed number of coupons, each package carrying a coupon representing a proportion of the value ot the iixed redeemable amount.

A plurality of packages, each package provided with a body portion and members constituted to form 'a receptacle to hold merchandise, the plurality of packages being divided into a plurality of distinctive classes, the packages of each distinctive class bearing a plurality of common designating characters, the designating characters of each distinctive class being diierent from tho-se of any other distinctive class, each package bearing a statement that a value is redeemable for a xed amount depending upon a fixed number of coupons, each package carrying a coupon representing a proportion of the value of the iixed redeemable amount.

A plurality of packages, cach package provided with a body portion and members constructed to form a receptacle to hold merchandise, the plurality of packages being divided into a plurality of distinctive classes, the packages of each distinctive class bearing a common designating character advertising matter and address, the designating character, advertising matter and address of each distinctive class being different from that of any other distinctive class, each package bearing a statement that a value is redeemable for a fixed amount depending upon a fixed number of coupons, each package carrying a coupon representing a proportion of the value of the fixed redeemable amount.
