lMPROVEMENT IN SAD-IRON HEATERS.
Specification describing a certain Improvement in Combined Sad-Iron and Heater, invented by HORACE W. SEAMAN, of Millport, in the county of Chemung and State of New York.
The nature of this invention consists in the consti uetion of an open-chambered case to be placed on a heating-stove or range, and ada-pt ed to receive in each of its cells or chambers a sad-iron, the latter bein g constructed with a deiiecting plate above and at the rear end of the iron proper, which deflecting plate tits the opening; in the top plate and one side of the heating-case, and thus closes it against the escape of the hot air in it Whenever an iron is inserted; the object being,` the heating of sadirons at a less expenditure of fuel.

The heating-case A ina-y be made of cast or wrought-iron, as preferred, and with any desired number of cells or chambers, B B, which are sepa-rated by suitable partitions C. The
case has an open bottom, and in each cell an opening` is formed in its top plate, and one of its side plates corresponding in outline to the deliecting plate E e of the sad-iron D, so that when the latter is inserted in a cell ofthe case its detlecting plate will entirely close up the opening in the top and side plates of thatparticular cell, and prevent the exit of the hot air which is instead caused to circulate around the iron proper. By thus conining the hot air the iron can beheated to the proper degreeinamuch shorter space of time than Where it is placed upon the top ofthe heating-stove exposed and without any surrounding' case. A bar,a1nay be formed at the base along the open ends of the cells connecting the entire series, as shown, and strengthening the structure or device. The deliecting plate E is parallel to the top of the iron properD, and supported on standards a short distance above it, and the plate e sirnply serves to close. the open space between the iron D and plate E at the rear end, as shown, to prevent the escape of air from the case at that point when the iron is inserted in it. The handle F is secured to the plate E by curved rods in the usual manner.
What I cla-iin as my' invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The heatin g-case A, con strncted as described, and used in connection with a sad-iron, D, the deiiector E e ot' which closes the opening in a chamber or cell of the case when the sad-iron is inserted, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
