IMPROVEMENT IN SEWING-MACHINE NEEDLESAND THEIR CARRYING-BARS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,576, dated February 13, 1872.

I, ANDREW W. Minions, of the borough of Media, county of Delaware and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Sewing-Machine Needle-Bars, of which the following is a specification SPECIFICATION.

The object of my invention is to set the neeclle properly in its bar, and as hereinafter described.

O is the axial hole in the needle-bar D, in which the needle B is secured by a set-screw, a, or otherwise. Near the upper end of this hole I drill a hole to intersect it, and in such hole I place a pin, A, that partially obstructs the hole 0.

I cut oii' obliquely the upper end of the needle-shank B and round the edges, as at b. The

shank is cut in a direction so that, when the needle is inserted and the beveled partstrikes against and partly passes the pin, the long groove of the needle will come in proper sewin g posit-ion. By rounding the edges, as at b, I am enabled to turn the needle slightly on its axis, as is sometimes necessary in order to allow the loop to bulge properly out from the opening in the shuttle-race face.
