CONJUNCTION MEMBER FOR ELECTRIC FIXTURES.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. BOOMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Conjunction Members for Electric Fixtures and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent, in
Figure 1 a view in side elevation of my improved conjunction-member for electric fixtures.
Fig. 2 a similar plan view thereof.
Fig. 3 a view of the member in central longitudinal section, showing it used as an end-fixture member in which it directly sup ports an incandescent-lamp.

My invention relates to an improvement in conjunction-members, commonly called ends or center-bodies, for electric fixtures, the object being to produce at a low cost for manufacture, a simple, compact and attractive conjunction-member constructed with particular reference to ease of wiring and to avoidance of stripping the wires.
With these ends in view,my invention consists in a two-part sheet-metal conjunctionmember comprising a shell having one or more tapped openings and formed on one side with an integral annular hollow bead, and a circular centrally spiled and tapped sheet-metal seat located entirely within the said bead and confined in place thereby.
In carrying out my invention as shown in Figs. 1 to .7 inclusive, I employ a substantially spherical sheet-metal shell 2 formed upon one side with an integral offsetting annular hollow bead .3 functioning as a slip Specification of Letters Patent.

ring, the outer opening at of the said bead being adapted in diameter to receive the brass tube 5 employed as a casing for the iron pipe 6 through which the electric wires pass into the hollow chamber 7 of the shell. The said shell 2 is spiled and tapped to form a tapped opening 8 for the reception of a nipple 9 or other fitting to which an incandescent lamp-socket 10 as shown in Fig. 3 may be attached.
Within the hollow bead 3, I locate an annular sheetmetal seat 11 centrally spiled and tapped as at 12 for the reception of the said iron pipe 6. The outer edge of the seat 11 is curved as at 13 to conform to the curved edge 14: of the bead 3. Preferably the interior surface of the bead will be roughened as at 15 to co'act with the roughened exterior surface 16 of the seat 11 so as to prevent the rotation of the latter in the completed structure. In forming my improved conjunction-member, the seat is struck into the cupped form shown in Fig. 7 and dropped into the open neck of the shell 2 when in the form shown by Fig. 4 so as to rest upon the shoulder 17 thereof. The edge of the shell is then closed over the edge of the seat, both of the said edges be ing correspondingly curved, and the seat being thus firmly locked in place entirely within the shell, no portion of it being exposed on the outside thereof.
It will be seen by reference to Fig. 3, that under this construction the interior chamber 7 of the shell 2 is left unobstructed for the free passage and disposition of the electric wires which pass through the pipe 6 and out through the nipple 9 with so much accommodation in the way of space that there is no danger of stripping the wires.
In the application of my invention shown in Fig. 8, the shell 2 is formed with two oppositely located spiled and. threaded openings 18 for the reception of tapped fixturearms 19 extending in opposite directions and supporting lamp-fixtures, not illustrated.
It will be understood that the spiled and tapped openings in the shell may be varied in number and size according to the requirements of use, as well as the size of the opening 4: in the hollow bead 3 which func tions in the same manner as the slip ring ordinarily employed to conceal the abutting end of the brass tube 5 employed to nothing to do with the gist of my invention.
I claim A two-part sheetmetal c0njunctionmeniber comprising a substantially spherical sheet-metal shell having one or more openings and formed on one side With an integral annular hollow bead, and a circular, centrally spiled and tapped seat located entirely Within the said bead and confined in 7 place thereby.
