To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that J OSEPH E. TETU, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Lewiston, county of Androscoggin, State of Maine, and WILLI E. CUTLER, deceased, late of Auburn, county of Androscoggin, State of Maine, did invent an Improvement in Beam-Locks for Looms, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawing, is a specification, like characters on the drawing representing like parts.
This invention relates to looms and is particularly concerned with known as the beam look by which the journals of the warp beam are. held in their hearings in the side frames of the loom.
The object of the inventionis to provide a simple and efficient beam lock of an adj ustable character by which adjustment may be provided to take upwear and insure that the warp beam shall rotate smoothly and evenly.
In the operation .ofthe loom considerable wear is caused on the journals of the warp beam and on the bearing of these journals in the said frames This causes jumping or vibration of the heavy warp beam particularly when the beat up takes place. This is highly undesirable because of its effect upon the tension of the warp and consequently upon the cloth being woven. The present invention provides for taking up any wear of this sort and thus eliminates this difficnlty.
The invention also has for its object to provide a self-contained adjustable beam lock of a symmetrical nature which may be attached to either side of the loom.
These and other features of the invention will appear more fully from the accompanying description and drawings and will be particularly pointed out in the claims.
The drawings illustrate so much of a loom as is necessary to an understanding of the invention together with a preferred form of the invention embodied therein.

Figure 1 is a front elevation of one side frame of a loom and portion of a warp beam the device together with a beam lock embodying a preferred form of this invention;

Fig. 3 is a detail much enlarged of a portion of the construction including the beam look as shown in Fig. 2 with one of the side plates of the beam lock removed.
One end of a warp beam 1 with its journal 2 resting in an open bearing 3 in the side frame 4 is sufficient to illustrate the in vention because the opposite end of the warp beam, the opposite journal, and the opposite side frame are all of similar and well known construction.
The shoulder of the side frame in which is formed the bearing 3 is also shown as provided adjacent the bearing 3 with a recess 5 which may be the recess upon which the journal 2 of the warp beam is ordinarily rested in the operation of placing a warp beam in position in its bearings. The beam lock illustrated as a preferred form of this invention comprises a body section and a bearing section 6 movably mounted on the body section. In the construction illustrated the body section is formed of a casting 7 of the general shape shown and two side plates 8 secured to and at each side of the casting 7 by rivets 9. These side plates are shorter than the casting 7 which projects upwardly at 10 above the side plates. The bearing member 6 is shaped at its upper end to provide a recess 11 to fit over the journal 2 of the warp beam and is pivotally mounted in the side plates as by a rivet 12 so that it may move or swing toward and from the upstanding portion. lOof the casting 5 of the body section. A set screw 13 is threaded through the upstanding portion 10 of the body section and abuts atits end against the back of the bearing section 6. This set screw is provided with a lock nut 14-. It will thus be seen that by adjusting the set screw 13 the position of the bearing section 6 with respect to the body section is adjusted and that by setting up the lock nut 14: this adjustment of the bearing section is retained. set screw 16 is secured in the side frame ilin an appropriate position with respect to the warp beam ournal bearing and is provided With a-tliumb nut 17 and a lock nut 18. The body section of the beam lock atv i the upstanding end 10 of the casting is pro- 'vided at both sides with laterally projecting symmetrically arranged hubs 19 so positioned that when the aperture 15 is over the set screw 16 one of these hubs rests in the recess 5 ofthe frame. The aperture 15 is of such a size as to allow the hub 19 to seat in the recess 5 under slightly varying conditions.
WVhen the beam lock has been placed in position on the loom side the thumb nut 17 is turned up and the lock nut 18 set so that the body section .of the beam lock is rigidly secured to the side frame.

3. In a loom having a warp beam and side frames provided with open alined bear ings to receive the warp beam journals, an adjustable beam lock for each side frame comprising a body section, a bearing section pivotally mounted in said body section, means for securing the body section rigidly tothe side frame adjacent its open hearing, a set screw threaded into the body section and abutting the bearing section whereby the bearing section may be adjusted with prising a body section, a bearing section pivotally mounted in the body section, a set screw threaded into the body section and abutting the bearing section, the said body section being provided with a transverse aperture through which securing means may be passed and a hub projecting from the side of said body section and adapted to cooperate with a recess in the side frame of the loom.
