Description

JOHN H. @L SAMUEL HOBBINS.
Improvement in Wheel Plow.

, y www; gg-l 14/ JOHN H. ROBBINS AND SAMUEL ROBBIN S, OF BETHEL, OREGON.
IMPROVEMENT IN WHEEL-PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,294, dated January 30, 1872.
Specification describing Improved Riding- Plow, invented by JOHN H. ROBBINS and SAMUEL ROBBINS, of Bethel, in the county of Polk and State of Oregon.
The. invention will iirst be fully described and then clearly pointed out in the' claim.
Figure l is a plan; Fig. 2, a front, Fig. 3, av rear view of my improved riding'plow.
A is the pole, on each side ot' which a horse is to be placed, which is pivoted at a, and which is also provided with an end-perforated extension plate, a2. B is a transverse and recessed socket, attached to a frame, O, and perforated at the points Z), through which passes bolt b. By changing the position of the tongue later'- ally, and also the bolt b', a greater or less width of furrow may be obtained. D is the plow-beam, having a rigid arm, D1, and pivoted one D2. Near the end is placed the turnplow E, while at the end and to one'side there of is attached a yoke d. This yoke passes over the end of rigid piece D1, and is provided with a set screw, d', protruding upwardly through the bottom. By causing the. screw d to protrude a certain distance through the yoke the sole of the. plow will run in a horizontal plane; but when the under side of the point of share becomes dubbed ott" by attrition the plow has a tendency to run too shallow. In order to overcome this tendency it is necessary to increase the pitch of the plow or to give it a small incline to a horizontal plane.
. This is easily and quickly accomplished by slightly withdrawing the screw d', and lessening the inclination of piece D1. F is another yoke, attached to the front of frame C, a-nd apertured at several points on each side. f is a pivot-pin, which passes through one of these holes on each side, and laterally through end ot' beam. G is a lever-frame, fulcrumed in bearings g g, having extension g1, that is held at various points in a rack`plate, H, and projecting goose-neck g2, from which is a pendent hook, g3. g4 is a cha-in attached to the end of rigid piece D1 of bea-m. By changing the position of beam, that of front pivot-pin f, and hooking the chain I at a corresponding point, the horizontal position of the plow is also changed, and it is made to run at a greater or less depth, according to requirement. K is the axle, bent downward to form a central yoke, k, whose sides may cause the plow-beam and its plow to be always properly and rigid- 1y aligned.
Haring thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
. The adjustable front yoke F and pinf, and the lever-frame G g2, having hook g3, combined with beam D D1 D2, having chain gt3-all arranged as and for the purpose described.
