JAMES C. DAWSON. OF WEBSTER GROVES. MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO DAWSON BINDER, COMPANY. OF ST. LOUIS. MISSOURI, A CORPORATION OF MISSOURI.
ALBUM.
Application filed January 29. 1916.
To all zr/lom it may conct'rn Be itknown that 1. JAMES C. DAWSON. a citizen of the United States. and resident of Vi'ebster Groves. county of St. Louis. and State of Missouri. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Albums. of which the following is a specification. and which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings. forming a part thereof.
The invention relates to cardv mounts and more particularly to those which serve as holders for the preservation and display'of pictures. sample sheets and the like, and are usually bound together. forming a book or albunn While card mounts of this form have heretofore been slotted to receive the corners of the sheets to be mounted thereon,
the practice has been to form the slots with sharp ends or angles from which the tearing of the mount readily begins and the slots have been required to be of considerable length to receive a sufficient; portion of the mounted sheet to insure its being held in place.
The present invention accordingly contemplates a card mount having slot-ted openings which are so formed as not to present any sharp ends or angles from which tearing would be likely to begin and to provide anflintermediateflap for extending over the mounted sheet to insure its being held in place. A further feature of the invention provides improved means for detachably connect-ing'a plurality of card mounts end to end to permit of their being folded together between covers or extended for the simultaneous display of all or'any number of the mounted sheets. The object of the invention is to provide a card mount of increased durability. improved appearance and alfording greater convenience in the application and removal of the mounted sheet. Figure 1 is a plan view showing the open covers of an album with a card mount embodying the features. of improvement provided by the invention held therein as one of the pages or leaves of the album.

Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 10, 1911.
Serial No. 75.102.
Fig. l is adetail plan view showing two of the connected mounts,
Fig. 5 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 6 is an elevation. showing the album illustrated in Fig. 1. partly .open.
In carrying outthe invention. cards. as 10, 11. are provided as mounts for the sheets. as 12, to be preserved or displayed. The sheets, as 12. are removably held upon the cards 10 or 11 by inserting each of the corners 13 of the sheet 12 into a slotted opening 14 in the corresponding card.
The said slotted openings 14 are of improved form to avoid the provision of sharp corners or ends from which tearing of the card might begin and to provide a projecting flap 15. The flap 15 facilitates the insertion of the corner '13 oi the sheet 12 into the slotted opening 11 and overlies the sheet 12 to more securely hold the same in place. As shown. the slot-ted opening 14 is formed with rounded end portions 17. 18, a straight inner side wall 16 which is on a line with the inner margins of the rounded end portions 17. 18. and an outer side wall 19 which is offset inwardly from the line of the outer margins of the rounded end portions 17. 18.
\Then a plurality of the cards. as 10. 11. are to be held between book covers. as 20. :21. they may he hingedly connected end to end. A convenient form of detachable hinged connection is obtained by providing the adjacent ends of the cards. as 10. 11. with longitudinal slots. as 23.'arranged in pairs. and by the use of the hinges generally designated 24. As shown. each of the hinges 21 comprises a pair of stifl' T-shaped end sections '25. 26. connected by a flexible web 27. In use the oppositely extending sides of the T heads of the two end sections 26. of each hinge 24 are inserted in the slots of adjacent cards. as 10. 11. in the manner illustrated by Figs. 4. 5 and 6. All of the cards may be connected together end to end in this way. thereby permitting of their being folded together for protection by the covers 20. 21. or extended in a row for the simultaneous display of the sheets. as 12. mounted thereon.
I claim as my invention.-
A card mount for angular sheets having a slotted opening for receiving a corner of the sheet, said slotted opening being without converging angles in its margin and comprising two rounded end portions and an intermediate ortion which is of less width than the width of either of the said end portions and has one of its side walls extending in a straight line which is tangent to the corresponding sides of both of the vsaid rounded end portions, the other side wall of the intermediate portion of the opening being inwardly-ofiset from the line of the corresponding sides of the rounded end portions but notextending to the first described side wall of the said intermediate portion, forming a flap.
