ATTACHMENT FOR BRACELET-WATCHES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 10, 1917.
Application filed February 21, 1917. Serial No. 150,290.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAX lVIncURowsKY, a citizen of the United States, residing in New York, in the county of New York, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Bracelet-Watches, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates in general to bracelets for bracelet or wrist watches, and in particular to an attachment therefor adapted to connect the watch and the bracelet ornamentally.
My object is chiefly to provide connecting means of the nature described which shall perform efliciently the function of attaching the bracelet to the watch, without interfering with their combined ornamental effect. In fact, as will hereinafter appear my novel attachment enhances materially the said ornamental effect, the combination of watch, attachment, and bracelet forming a most pleasing and artistic wrist decoration.
Further objects of, this invention will appear from the description, and the features of novelty will be particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawing accompanying this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bracelet and watch attachedthereto by my novel connecting means; Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view ofthese means shown attached to the watch and bracelet Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view taken along the line 33 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4.- is an enlarged horizontal sectional view; Fig. 5 is an enlarged vertical view of the connecting means and watch and bracelet, partly in section; Fig. 6 is a similar view inverted; Fig. 7 is a detailed sectional view taken along the line 7-7 of Fig. 2; Fig. 8 shows the novel attachment developed.
Referring particularly to the drawing, 10 is a watch attached to the expansion bracelet 11 by means of the segments 12 disposed at each end of the bracelet and attached thereto and to the watch in the manner hereinafter described.
The watch is provided at its rim with sockets 13 in which is held a ring 14:- The segments 12 are shaped to form an artistic combination with the bracelet and watch, and each consists of a casing having a front face 15 substantially flush with the surface of the bracelet, thus forming a continuation thereof, and a back face 16 substantially parallel to the front face, and the sides 17, 17 and 17'.
In the drawing the segment 12 is shown to be substantially trapezoidal, this shape being best calculated to give the desired artistic effect for the particular bracelet there shown, and the larger end is open and curved as at 18 to make it conform to the end surface of the watch, while the smaller end is provided with a recess 18 through which may be inserted the iii-turned lip 19 at each end of the bracelet.
To attach the segment to the watch I provide the smaller end of the former with small flaps 20 which may be folded around the ring 14L when the segment is fitted to the rim of the watch, as will be clear from Fig. 7 The bracelet is then readily attached by inserting the in-turned lip 19 through the recess 18 so that it may frictionally engage the flaps20 now folded around the ring 14:, as y will be clear from Figs. 2, 5, and 6.
The construction of the segments 12 will now be described in detail. These segments are made preferably of one piece of metal, usually gold or gold plated, as follows: A blank like that shown in Fig. 8 is stamped out by means of a die, or otherwise formed, from a thin sheet of the metal. As will be seen from the figure, this blank consists of the trapezoidal portions 21 and 22 adapted to form respectively the front and back faces 15v and 16 of the segment, and two side flapsv 23 adapted to be folded around the back face 16 as shown in Fig. 6. The portion 22 is provided with the end pieces 24 which are made to stand away from the surface 22 to lie in a plane below said sur face, as clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 7. When the portion 22 is folded along the lines 25, the portion 26 forms the side 17, while the portions 27 form the flaps 20 adapted to fold around the ring 1 L as herein before explained, and the recessed portions 28 register to form the recess 18 through which the lip 19 at the end of the bracelet is inserted.
By this construction as explained above the segment forms a continuation of the bracelet, while the attaching mechanism is completely hidden from view within the segment casing. It will thus be clear that I have provided an attachment for bracelet watches which not only effectively connects the bracelet to the watch, without spoiling the artistic effect of the combination, but
which in fact enhances the ornamental value thereof.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1, In combination with a watch and bracelet, attaching means on said watch, and engaging means on said bracelet for attaching the latter to the watch, an attachment therefor adapted to cover said attaching means, said attachment comprising a segment, having a face thereof substantially flush with the face of the bracelet links, and having such shape and thickness as to form an ornamental continuation thereof, and having a recess 011 one end adapted to receive said engaging means, and means for engaging said attaching means to secure the segment to the watch.
2. In combination with a bracelet watch and expansion bracelet and attaching means on said watch, said bracelet being provided at each end thereof with a link member having an inturned lip portion, an attachment therefor adapted to cover said attaching means, said attachment comprising a segment having a face adapted to be substantially flush with the outer face of the bracelet links so as to form an ornamental continuation thereof and means forengaging said attaching means to secure the segment to the watch, there being a recess in said segment adapted to receive said lip portion for attaching the bracelet thereto.
8. In. combination with a watch and expansion bracelet, said bracelet being provided at each end thereof with a link member having an inturned lip portion, and said watch being. provided with socket members rigid therewith, and an eye member held in said socket members, an attachment therefor adapted to cover said eye and socket mem-. bers, said attachment comprising a segment having a face adapted to be substantially flush with the outer face of the bracelet links so as to form an ornamental continuation thereof, and having a recess near one end adapted to receive said lip portion for attaching the bracelet thereto, and means for engaging said eye member to attach the segment to the watch.
a. An attachment for bracelet Watches comprising in combination with a plurality of sockets rigid with the watch, an eye member passing through said sockets to be held therein, and a link member at the ends of the bracelet provided with an inturned lip portion, a segment adapted to cover said eye and socket members, said segment having one end shaped to conform to the contour of the end surface of the watch, means on said segment to embrace said ring member for attaching the former to the watch, there be ing a recess in said segment through which the lip portion may pass to engage the ring to connect the bracelet thereto.
5. An attachment for bracelet Watches having attaching means extending from the periphery thereof comprising a casing having one edge conforming to-the contour of the periphery of the watch, said casing being adapted to inclose said attaching means, and means adapted to encircle the attaching element for securing the casing to the watch.
6. An attachment for bracelet watches having attaching means extending from the periphery thereof comprising a casing hav- 1ng one edge conforming to the contour of the periphery of the watch, said casing being adapted to inclose said attaching means, and means adapted to encircle the attaching element for securing the casing to the watch, there being a recess in said casing to receive engaging means on the bracelet for attaching the latter to the watch.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto affixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
