STENCIL-INDICATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 141 1911.
Application filed August 2 1, 1916. Serial No. 116,690.
- new and useful improvements in stencil indicators.
The primary object of my invention is to provide a visible designator for stencils, paper files and the like to permit arrangement of the stencils in alphabetical order and to give desired information without withdrawing the stencil from the holder.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device of the character described which may be applied to sheet articles which are to be filed away for future use, the indicating means being exposed at all times to facilitate the location of the desired file or stencil as the case may be.
A further object of my invention is to provide an indicating device of the class described which is simple in construction, may be cheaply manufactured, and quickly and easily applied to and removed from a stencil, paper file or the like.
Other objects and advantages to be derived from the use of my improved stencil indicator will appear from the following detail description and the claims, taken with an inspection of the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a stencil indicator embodying the improvements of my invention; and
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the same.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, wherein similar characters of reference designate like and corresponding parts throughout the various views, 1 designates the body of a stencil, paper file or the like. My improved indicator is formed of a sheet of metal designated 2 in its entirety bent to form converging sideportions 3 and 4. The main portion of the stencil indicator is relatively wide as at 5 and engages the free marginal edge 6 of the stencil 1.
The free marginal edges of the converging sides 3 and 4 are bent upon themselves to form gripping flanges 7 and 8 for engagement with the free edges 9 and 10 of a transparent shield member 11, said shield member having a top portion 12 in spaced relation to the portion 5 of the sheet 2 to permit insertion of an indicator card or strip 13.
The flange 7 is bent upon itself as at 141 to form a gripping flanged?) for engagement with one side of the stencil 1. The free end of the flange 14 is removed as at 16 in Fig. 1 to form a tongue to permit the insertion and removal of the stencil.
The inherent resiliency of the sides 3 and 4 of the sheet 2 serve to grippingly engage a stencil or the like when inserted therebetween. Of course, I do not limit myself to the use of the indicator in connection with the stencils, since the same may be as readily used on paper files and the like. It will be seen that without prohibitive expense, the stencils, files and the like now in use may be equipped with my improved indicator without structurally changing the file or stencil as the case may be.
From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it is thought that a clear and comprehensive understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of my invention may be had, and while I have shown and described the device as embodying a specific structure, I desire that it be understood that such changes may be made in said structure as do not depart from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An indicator of the class described, comprising a body formed of bendable metal bent to form converging side portions, the top portion of the said body engages the free marginal edge of a stencil, the free ends of the converging sides of the said stencil being bent upon themselves to form gripping flanges, one of the said flanges being bent upon itself to form a gripping flange for engagement with the side of the stencil, the said cover and top portion being in spaced relation for a purpose specified.
2. An indicator of the class described, ingripping flanges, said side portions being eluding a body formed of bendable met-a1 adapted for gripping engagement with the bent to form converging side portions, the free marginal edge of a stencil; 10 marginal edges of said side portions being In testimony whereof, I affix my signabent to form gripping flanges, a transparent ture hereto. protecting and retaining shield receivable on said body and being engaged by said NICHOLAS L. YOCHIM.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents; Washington, I). G.
