IMPROVEMENT IN TOBACCO-PIPES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,214, dated J anuary30, 1872.
My invention has for its object to provide a seamless wire-linin g for pipes by pressing wiregauze into the proper shape therefor.
Description of the Drawing forming part of this 7 Specification.
Figure l is a sectional view of the pipe lined with wirecloth; Fig. 2, the punch with which to press the wire into the pipe-bowl; and Fig. 3, the wire lining before being put into the bowl.
General Description.
A is the pipe-bowl; B, the wire lining inside of the pipe-bowl, and also the wire before it is put into the bowl 5 U, the pipe-stem; D, mouthpiece; E, the punch.
The operation of this pipe, and the mode of lining it is as follows: The wire is taken and laid over the opening in the bowl of the pipe, and the punch E is taken, and with it the wire, is pressed into the pipebowl, and then the pipe is in condition for use; there being a vacant space for the juices of the tobacco below the wire lining; and, as the juice accumulates, the stem can be withdrawn and the juice emptied out. For cigar smoking the cigar can be thrust into the bowl of a pipe, or the holder of a cigar can be lined in the same way as the bowl of a pipe.
Claim.
What I claim as my invention is- A seamless wire-lining for pipes, pressed into suitable shape from wiregauze, substantial- 1y as and for the purpose set forth.
