To all whom it may concern;

Be it known that 1, VVILLIAM H. GERRARD, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Yazoo City, in the county of Yazoo and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rocker Attachments, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to chairs and more particularly to a rocker attachment there- The primary object of my invention resides in the provision of a novel rocker attachment embodying novel means for removably clamping the attachment to the legs of a stationary chair to consequently' provide a rocking chair, novel means being also provided for permitting of the adjustment of the rockers with respect to each other so that they may be readily applied to station ary chairs of various widths.

Another object of my invention resides in the provision of novel connecting means for association withboth rockers and the legs of the chair, said connecting means being incidentally formed of two sections which are adjustable relative to each other so that the rockers may be readily connected in the proper position regardless of whether or not the distance between the rear legs, varies from the distance between the front legs, said means also permitting of theraising of the front legs or the rear legs to a suflicient extent to provide an efficient rocking chair.

' A still further object of my invention resides in the provision of a device of the character described that is simple-in construction, eificient in operation and one that can bemanufactured and: placed upon the market at a minimum cost.

Other objects as well asthe nature, characteristic features and scope of my invention will be more readily understood from the following description taken in connec tion with the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims forming a part of this specification.

Referring more particularly to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate like and corresponding parts throughout the dillerent views, 1 indicates the usual stationary chair havin a back 2 connected thereto and rear and front legs 3 and 4 respectively, connected together by suitable cross bars 5. It is to be-understood that this type of chair forms no essential part of my invention being merely illustrated and described in order that a thorough understanding of the invention may be set forth. The improved rocker attachment generally designated 6 is adapted to be removably connected-with the lower edges of the chair legs 3 and 4, when it is desired to converta stationary chair into a rocking-chair. In the present instance, the attachment comprises two similarly constructed arcuate rockers 7 which are adjustably connected to each other through the medium of adjustable connecting means consisting of the tubular bars 8, each having a reduced and solid end 9 extending through suitably spaced transverse openings in one of the rockers. Washers l0 and 11 are provided on the end 9 of each member 8 and are arranged on opposite sides'of therocker and a securing element 12, such as a nut or the like engage the ex tremity of the end 9 of said bar for removably maintaining the latter in a position laterally of the rocker as illustrated. Rods 13 similarly secured to the other rocker are adapted to telescopically engage the tubular bars 8 of the companion rocker. These rods having the reduced end M which extends through suitably spaced transverse openings in the said other rocker 7 and carry washers l5 and 16 which are disposed on opposite sides of the rocker, for purposes wellunderstood, the fastening devices 17 finally securing the rods in position. One of the arms of the channel-shaped elements is provided with a threaded opening in which is adjustably mounted a clamping screw 23. Each of these clamping screws has a, finger piece 24 on the outer end thereof, while the inner end of each has a disk 25 thereon, the inner surface of the latter being serrated as'indicated by the numeral 26. The inner. faces of the other arms ofthe. channel elements are also serrated as at 27 to coiiperate with the serrated faces 26 of the disks when the parts are-in engagement with the legs of the chair, for facilitating the engagement thereof. These channel-- shaped clamping elements are arranged in relation respectively with the front and rear legs of the chair and with the rockers, the clamping screws being rotated so as to removably clamp the legs and rockers between the serrated surfaces 26 and 27, these clamping elements being facilitated through the medium of the stud'21 and complementalsocket. This is particularly true when the distance between distance between the front legs.

Although I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my. invention, I desire it to be understood that I am not to be limited to the exact details shown, however, I desire that great stress be laid upon the arrangement of the channelshaped clamping and connecting elements for removablyv and adjustably associating the rockers .with the legs of the chair as Well as the ad usting means for connecting the rockers to each other so that they may be readily applicable upon the legs of any stationary chair.

It will be understood that the above de scription and accompanying drawings com prehend only the general embodiment of my invention and that various minor changes in detail of construction, proportion and arrangement of the parts may be made within the scope of the appended claims and without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by 'Letters Patent, is

1. A rocker attachment for chairs comprising a rocker, means for adjustably connecting the rocker to legs of the chair and comprising apair of channeled clamping members, a threaded stud projecting from oneof the channeled members, a corresponding socket projecting from the opposing face of the other channeled member'for adjust ably receiving said stud, and means for clamping legsof the chair and the rocker 1n the channels of said members to mamtain the parts in relative cooperative relation.

A rocker attachment for chairs comprising, a pair of rockers, means for adjustably con" ecting the rockers to the legs of the chair, said means including channel shaped clamping members, a threadedstud pro ecting from the under surface of one of the channel members, a corresponding socket projecting from the upper surface.
