PETER NICOLAAS KLUFT, OF AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS.
TOOL-HOLDER...
Specification bf Letters Patent.
Patented June 19, 191'7.
Application filed June 20, 1916. Serial No. 10 1,8001}.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER NICOLAAS KLUFT, subject of the Queen of the Netherlands, residing at Amsterdam, van Eeghenstraat No. 11, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tool-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a holder for tools, instruments, and the like, the holder being adapted to also serve as a handle when using the tools.
The object of my invention is to provide a holder of halves or parts, adapted to fit together to form a container wherein the tools are each firmly held until desired to be used.
The invention is illustrated in one constructional example in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an inside view of one half of the holder.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the closed holder with half shown in Fig. 3 fitted to the half shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an inside view of the second half, and
Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the holder in the position of use.
1 (Fig. 1) isthe one half of the holder. One end of this half is provided with a closing cap 2 while the other end 3 is of hooked form. 4 (Fig. 3) is the other half, 1
having a solid end 5, which in the closed position of the holder fits in the closing cap 2, while 6 is a closing cap attached to the other end of this half; 7 is a spring disposed therein and behind which the hooked end 3 of the first half engages in the closed condition of the holder (Fig. 2). 8 8 are spring tongues fixed at one end of the half shown in Fig. 3, and 9-9 are spring tongues fixed at the corresponding end of the half shown in Fig. 1, these spring tongues being inwardly directed. In the free resilient ends of these tongues are dents or bent out parts 10, 10, 11, 11 which engage in openings 12 formed in the double tools 13, 14, 15 and 16 lying under the tongues in the respective halves. The double tool 13 may for example consist as shown in Fig. 3 of a gimlet 17 and a screw driver 18 united by a middle portion provided with the openings 12, while the double tool 14 may consist of a small saw 20 and a knife 21 with an intermediate uniting portion 22 likewise having openings 12. Two double tools may be contained in this way in each half holder (Figs. 1 and 3) giving eight tools in all.
The solid end 5 of the half 4 shown in Fig. 3 is provided with a rectangular recess or seat 23 in the bottom of which are fixed two pins 24 corresponding to the openings 12 of the middle portions of the tools. 25 is an opening in the front end of the closing cap 2 and adjoining or coinciding with the recess 23 in the closed condition of the holder.
If now for example it is desired to use the gimlet 17 of the double tool 13, the holder is opened by simply sliding the halves apart, the hooked end 3 being drawn over the spring 7; then the tool 13 is drawn out from under the spring tongue 8 and fitted in the recess or seat 23 of the solid end 5 of the half 4, with the gimlet outward and the openings 12 in engagement with the pins 24. The middle portion of the tool then fits exactly in the square recess 23. The halves of the holder are then slid into each other again, care being takenthat the tool 17 projects through the opening 25. The hooked end 3 then again engages behind the spring 7 in the closing cap 6, while the closing cap 2 together with the material of the end of the half to which this cap is fixed, surrounds or embraces the tool 17 in the recess 23 in such manner that the middle portion of the tool is completely and accurately embraced. The tool is thus firmly held in position for use (see Fig. 4). For the purpose of rounding and ornamenting the outer edges of the box shaped halves and consequently of the entire holder, these outer edges may be faced or provided with a fine wood, mother of pearl, or the like.
Obviously instead of the tools shown by way of example other tools or instruments may be contained in the holder, for instance medical or surgical instruments, architects instruments and so forth. Moreover it is not necessary to employ double tools or instruments. In the case for example where single tools are employed the holder may be constructed shorter.
What I claim is 1. Combined holder and handle for pocket tools, instruments and the like, comprising a plurality of container parts adapted to fit together in the closed condition to form a container and each adapted to receive difierent tools or instruments in combination with closing devices provided 011 a plurality of said parts and adapted in-the closed position to unite the whole together and spring tongues with which each part is provided, said'tongues being adapted to press on the tools or instruments contained in the holder, and being provided With devices to engage with corresponding parts of the tools or instruments.
2. Combined holder and handle for pocket tools, instruments and the like, comprising a plurality of container parts adapted to fit together in the closed condition to form a container and each adapted to receive difierent tools or instruments in combination with closing devices provided on a plurality of said parts and adapted in the closed position to unite the Whole together, a seating recess in an end of a container part and provided With engaging means for corresponding parts of the tools or instruments in the position of use,-the closing device at this end having an opening coinciding With the seating recess and adapted to give passage to the tool or instrument in the position of use.
3. Combined holder and handle for pocket tools, instruments and the like, comprising two flat, elongated, boxshaped container parts adapted to fit together and coincide in the closed condition and each adapted to receive different tools or instruments, in combination with end members forming closing caps at the ends of said parts and adapted in the closed position to embrace the 'said parts respectively and unite the whole together, a seating recess in the end of one container part and provided with engaging means for corresponding parts of the tools or instruments in the position of use, the closing cap at this end having an opening coinciding with the seating recess and adapted to give passage to the tool or instrument in the position of use, substantially as described.
4. Combined holder and handle for pocket tools, instruments and the like, comprising two flat, elongated, box-shaped container parts adapted to fit together and coincide in the closed condition and each adapted to receive different tools or instru-. ments, in combination with end members .forming closing caps at the ends of said parts and adapted in the closed position to embrace the said parts respectively and unite the Whole together and spring tongues between the parts and adapted to press on the tools or instruments contained in the holder.
Combined holder and handle for pocket tools, instruments and the like, comprising two fiat, elongated, box-shaped container parts adapted to fit together and coincide in the closed condition and each adapted to receive difi'erent tools or instruments, in combination with end members forming closing caps at the ends of said parts and adapted in the closed position to embrace the said parts respectively and unite the Whole together and spring tongues between the parts and adapted to press on the tools or instruments contained in the holder, and being provided with devices to engage With corresponding parts of the tools or instruments, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
