Application led January 31, 1917. Serial No. 145,629v
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, JULIUs FRED HECK- MANN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Lupus,` in the county of Moniteau and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Gun-Magazine, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. y
My invention has for its object to rovide 16 a gun magazine having openings so t at the I A user may at any time ascertain the number of shells or cartridges remaining in the magazine. As the openings are preferably in the under side of the magazine, there is l5 little danger of moisture or foreign matters entering the magazine through the openings, while any foreign matter which may become disposed in the magazine will pass out through the openings when the gun is carried in the usual manner.
` Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following specification, in which the preferred form of the invention is disclosed.
' 25 In the drawings, similar reference charac- --ters denotesimilar -parts in all the views,
in which Figure 1 is a. side elevation of a gun provided with my improvement, parts being 3 illustrated in section to showthe construction; and
Fig. 2 is an enlarged inverted plan view of the magazine, showing my improvement. .-Iy referring to the drawings, it will be seen that the gun 5 has a barrel 6 and a magazine 7 disposed thereunder. rIhe eartridgcs or shells 8 in the magazine are fed to the breech ot the barrel (3 in anyapproved manner. Inthe under side of this magazine 7 there are openings 9 which are spaced apart, one of these openings 9 being vdisposed under the normal position of each cartridge or`shell 8 so that the user of the gun may, by looking at the under side of the magazine, determine at a glance the number,
of cartridges 'or shells still remaining in the magazine. A slide handle 10 which slides on the magazine has openings 11 in its underv slde which register with the openings 9 in the magazine when the slide handle is at rest. Inthis Way the number of cartridgesor shells in the magazine may be determined,
Whether or not the cartridges or shells are in that portion of the ma azine which is nor` mally inclosed by the slide handle 10.
Not only is it possible by means of the l openings 9 to determine the number of car- Patent A gun having a magazine with openings spaced apart at the normal cartridge or shell positions in the magazine, and a slide handleS l for moving against the magazine and havipx'g" an opening for registering with one of the ol'ienings in the magazine when the slide handle is in normal position;
