FOUNTAIN-BRUSH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 19, 1917.
Application filed July 19, 1916. Serial No. 110,118.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. PRIDE, a citizen of the lUnited States, residing at Gincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fountain-Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to fountain brushes and it has for an object to provide a brush in which the water is allowed to circulate freely about and through the bristles.
A further aim resides in the provision of a water magazine through which the tufts extend, the openings surrounding the tufts being larger than the latter so that the water in passing through said openings is allowed to surround and penetrate each tuft as it leaves the brush.
The invention further resides in the features of construction hereinafter described and claimed, the preferred embodiments being illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein,
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the brush partly in section;
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary section on line 2 2 of Fig. l, and,
Fig. 3 is a transverse section on line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
Referring more in detail to the drawing the numeral 1 designates the stock or body of the brush in which the tufts 2 are securely fixed as by a wire 3 and a metal covering or cap 4.
The stock is secured, as by screws 5 within a casing or face plate 6, the latter having openings 7 corresponding in number to the tufts 2 and of larger diameter to afford angular paths or spaces about the tufts whereby water will pass around the tufts and through them.
The body 1 defines with the casing 6 a compartment or magazine 8 into which water is delivered through openings 9 formed in said body between the points of securement of the tufts or bristles 2.
A cover section 10 is secured to the body by screws 11, said cover seating on the flanges 12 of the casing 6. A suitable handle 13 is secured to the cover section and through this handle is a water conducting tube 14 which discharges into the chamber 15 provided between the body and the cover section. The handle 13 is detaohably connected to a supply hose 16 in an Aobvious manner.
ln practice, water is delivered through the Y tubing 14 of the handle into the chamber 15,
tween the cover section and the casing flange 12, an anchoring plate 18 being 'provided for securing the packing'or washer to the cover.
Various changes in construction and material may be resorted to as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
WV hat is claimed as new is:
1. A fountain brush' comprising a body, bristles secured in the body, a wire arranged on the upper face of the body and securing the bristles in the body, individual metal caps inclosing the secured ends of the bristles to render them waterproof, means for supplying water to the body, and passages provided in the body between the bristles for delivering the water to the latter.
2. A fountain brush comprising a body having a plurality of perforations, tufts secured to the body between the perforations, and a casing for the body having individual openings through which the bristles extend, said easing openings being of larger diameter than the tufts whereby water flowing therethrough will have free exterior passage about each tuft.
3. A fountain brush comprising a casing having an inlet and a plurality of tuft-receiving perforations, a baiie interposed between the inlet and said perforations, and tuftsl passing through the casing perforations, and said baffle and secured to the upper face of the latter, the anchored ends of the tufts being capped against the passage of water therethrough.
Ll. A fountain brush comprising a casing having a perforated bottom wall and a surrounding side Wall, a baille provided with perforations staggered relative to those of the easing, means securing the baiiie directly and in spaced relation to the bottom Wall of the casing, tufts carried by the baiile and extending through the perforations of the casing, and a removable cover for the casing detachably secured to the baille inspaoed relation thereto and inclOSIlg the baflle Se l0 Curing means.
having a perforated bottom Wall, a cover for the casing having a Water inlet7 a baille in the Casing, tufte carried bythe baille and protruding through the casing perforations, means lSecuring the baille to the bottom Wall of the casing in spaced relation thereto, and in ealns seeth-ing the cover to the baille for re- Inoval.
,In teStimQny whereof he aixes his signature.
