' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HOWARD M. LEONARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Jacksomcounty of Jackson, and
State of ,Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wall Structures, of which; the following is :a specification.-
This invention relates to improvements in wall structures.
The wall is especially adapted for use as the side walls of a house or as a sign board. The objects of the invention are, I First, to provide improved'supports for interchangeable metallic wall sections. I
Second, to provide improved attaching means for securing the detachable wall sections in place. 1
Third, to provide an improved construction of detachable interchangeable wall section.
Fourth, to provide an improved corner structure for walls.
Fifth, to provide an improved wall structure in sections especially well adapted for the insertion of a door,.window, or other opening. Further objects, and objects relating to economics and details of construction and operation will definitely appear from the dev1ew showing the details of construction tailed description to follow.
I accomplish theobjects of my invention by the devices and means described in the.
following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed. out in the claims. V
A structure constituting a preferred embodiment of my invention is fully illus- 'trated in the accompanylng drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which:

The stringers 2 are secured to the posts 3 by bolts 4 the'rethrough.
Suitable clip plates 5 are interposed between the parts, having .rearwardl'y-projecting lugs 6-.. -6 which engage the post and for each side of the corner.

V and II. An angle iron metal frame 11 is provided for each panel or section 1. This is folded into a continuous frame and an electrically welded joint 12 joins the ends. One
limb of the L-shaped angle bar lies in the plane of the face of the section and the other limb projects rearwardly therefrom. The main part of the section consists of the supported sheet metal plate 13, the plate 13 being folded back upon the flange of the frame at 14:, as indicated in Fig. VIII.
A sheet metal tongue piece 15 is suitably conformed to this flange and is secured in place by the spot electric welds 1616, as clearly appears in Figs. VIII and IX. The tongues are adapted to mesh with each other as indicated in Fig. IX. The tongues might be riveted in place, and they are preferably formed with an angular bend and place. I draw the sections toward each other and retain them in position by means of bolts 19, which are inserted through perforations in the rib of the frame 11, which bolts extend through angular brackets 21,

zontal limb of the stringers 2. The angular brackets adapt themselves to the direction of ull of the bolts 19. These bolts are disposed in somewhat angular relation at the corners, see Fig; II, and in substantially straight lines in the wall structures, see par ticularly Fig. a
By this means the stringer rails are not encumbered by projecting parts and-very readily nest together for shipment. At the same time, the clamping bolts for drawing the sections together completely and effectively adaptthemselves to this use and are very readily drawn up by. applying a wrench to the nuts thereon. r
The corner irons 23 for the walls are folded to the proper angle for the corner and 38 above the door for the vertical'edges thereof are folded upon themselves at 24 to form a bead, and the projecting metal is folded backwardly upon itself at 25 to form a suitable engaging 'tongue to fit into the tongue and groove securely drawn together by turning the nuts on said bolts inside the wall. As many of these clips or bolts are made use of as circumstances and the height of the wall may require.
The lug for retaining the sheet metal wall section 1 in place may be. formed as indicated in Fig. XI by-striking down a lug 29 from the horizontal limb of the stringer- 2. This somewhat weakens the :structure and calls for extra manipulation and isnot so satisfactory as the structure referred to' in Fig. X.
When it is desired to introduce a door into my wall structure, I provide a door 30 which has frame 31 of L shaped angle metal similar to the outer frame, of the wall section 1. i
v The door is formed of sheet metal and secured to the said frame 31 by folding the edges thereof, as clearly appears in Flgs. XIV,'XV and XVII. The door is supported by a cross brace 32 and diagonal braces 3333 and is carried on hinges 35, which are riveted or bolted thereto as by bolts or "rivets 36. The opposite members of the hinges are secured to the sheet metal panel .13 of the adjacent sheet metal section 1 by rivets 37 or other suitable means.
A panel or wall section 38 is inserted in the space left above the door. and is sup-L ported on horizontal bars 40 at that point. These-bars 4.0 are secured to the adjacent section 1 in any suitable way. The wall section 38 is made precisely like the section 1, except of small dimensions, being pro-' vided with a frame 39 of angle bar corresponding to the frame 11 and is secured to the horizontal bars 40 by precisely the same means as that adopted for securing the sections 1 on the stringers 2. The edges of the door 30 fit against the projecting tongues 15 of the adjacent sections, which makes a tight joint for the door. A tongue 41 is provided on the lower edge of the section this purpose at that point. a
From this description'it will be understood that my improved structure is very sim le to manufacture. The parts are interc angeable, are very readily adjusted to place, and when the wall is put into place, a substantial and water-tight structure, very efi'ective for use in portable" houses is pro vided. The structure is also of very great advantage for sign board uses, as the sec.- tions can be assembled temporarily together within a suitable inclosure-and the painting, decorating and lettering of the signs may be done indoors at any time and as soon as properly prepared they can be carried out and put on the stringers by unskilled labor at a minimum of expense and very rapidly, making it possible to accomplish the renewal or exchange of signs with pedition. On the other hand, w ere the structure is made use of for a house, the entire house can be disassembled and there is no need to study the arrangement and to letter or mark the parts because the various sections are absolutely interchangeable. The door section can be inserted at any point desired and the side walls can be transported in a very compact form and as the edges of the sections are supported by angle bar frame pieces, they will be found very durable and the structure is not likely to get out of order durin transportation.
In many particu ars, my invention is an improvement on the structure invented and patented by F. W. Ruby, No. 957,259, dated May 10,1910.
