Be it known ythat l, `HENRY STOFEEL, `a citizen of the United States, residing at Tulsa, in thecounty of Tulsa and IState of Oklahoma, have inventeda vnew anduseful Flushing-Tank, .of which the following is a specification.
The present invention appertains toflushing tanks,.and aims toprovide a novel and improved device of that character.
It is the object of the invention to provide a flushing'tank,provided therein with a.tilting receptacle forfreceivingthe water and holding it, saidreceptacle `being tilted fto dump the water into theitank .for the flushing. operation, the device eliminatingithe use of a 4fioatvalve for-holding the waterin the tank as usual, and ,embodying novel features of construction to enhance the utility andl efficiency thereof.
It is .also the object of theinventionto provide anovel assemblage ofthe component ele1nents,and to provide means whereby the receptacle or inner tank is prevented kfrom scooping up the water lafterfthe recep- .tacleis tilted, thereby assuring of the full discharge of water, from the Atank.
lVith the-foregoing and other objects in view which willappear as the description proceeds, the-invention residesin the combination and arrangement of parts `and in the details of construction,hereinafter described and claimed, it being `understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing'from the spirit of thefinvention.

In vcarrying out the invention, there is provided a circular or cylindrical tank disposed in a vertical plane lwithits axis horizontal and embodying the lower and upper semi-circular sections 1 and 2, the upper section 2 being fitted upon the lower section,
and thelower .section 1 `having a vlower outlet 3. Thetank can be constructedof sheet metal, cast ironor othersuitable material, and may be suitably finished upon the interior. As a means for mounting thereceptacle withinthe tank, a bearing plate 5.is disposed at the inner side of one ,Hat side wallof the lower tank section Ilandhas offset edge portions?) riveted orfotherwise securedvto said side wall. The plate 5 has an upwardly opening notchor seat 7, and aplate S is securedto the corresponding' fiatsidewall of the receptacle 11 y.and hasan outstanding trunnion 9 seated in the notch?, and provided with a head 10 engaging behind thev plate 5 to lock the trunnion to the bearing plate. An outstanding .trunnion 11 is attached in any suitable man- .nertofthe oppositefiat side wall ofthe receptacle 4the.trunnions 9 and 11 being located adjacentto the upper edges of thereceptacle intermediate ther ends thereof. The trunnion 11 seats in van upwardlyopening notchv or seatzl-S of a plate 12 securedto the outer surface of the otheriat side wall of the lowervtank section 1, said side wall also Ihaving an upwardly opening slot or notch 14.1 for receivingthe `trunnion 11. There ceptacle t is thus hung from` theftrunnions 9 `and r11. andnormallytends to swing to a ydepending position. A radial lever or handle.15 is secured to the trunnion'llfor tilting. theireceptacle, and .can project in any desired direction. Stop lugs 16 are carried by the plate 1211er limiting the movement of the lever 15. A chain or other flexible element can be connected to the lever 15 for operating the device whenv iti is elevated or out, of reach. When the upper tank section or cap `2 is removed, thereceptacle can be readily lifted out oi" the lower tank section, since-the trunnions 9v and 11 are readilyremoved upwardly, froml theirA bearing plates 5 and 12. y

inwardly and downwardly and overhanging the corresponding end f the receptacle when it is in depending position as seen in Fig. 2, the corresponding end wall of the receptacle having a recess or opening 2O for accommodating the nozzle 19 and valve casing 17. The valve casing 17 has a valve seat 21 between its inward end and the nozzle 19, and a plunger 22 is slidable within the valve casing at that side of the nozzle passage opposite the valve seat 21. rlhe plunger 22 carries a valve stem 23 which projects outwardly through the valve seat 21, and which carries the valve 24 that is seatable against the seat 21 for shutting off the flow of water into the receptacle. The plunger 22 has a slot 25 extending laterally therethrough and the valve casing 17 has a longitudinal slot 26 above the slot 25, a lever 27 extending upwardly through the slots 25 and 26 and having its lower end fulcrumed or pivoted, as at 28, to the lower portion of the valve casing below the plunger and above the nozzle 19. The valve casing 17 has an upwardly extending bracket 29 within the tank to which a lever 30 is pivoted between its ends, and the lower arm of the lever 30 is connected by a link 31 with the upper end of the lever 27 The upper arm of the lever 3() has a circular notched head 32 carrying a clamping element 33 through which a rod 34 is slidable, and the clamping element 33 is adapted t0 clamp the rod 34 at different angular positions against the head 32. The rod 34 extends into the receptacle and is provided at its ends with a suitable float 35 movable within the receptacle. y
A suitable float 36 is attached to the arcuate wall of the receptacle 4 adjacent to that end thereof which moves under the valve casing 17 and which moves downwardly when the receptacle is tilted.
The operation is as follows: The receptacle is normally in depending position when filled with water, and when the lever 15 or other operating member is swung properly, this will tilt the receptacle, as seen in Fig. 3, the water will flow therefrom into the lower portion of the tank, and then iiow with a gushing action through the outlet 3. Due to the presence of the float 36 within ythe depressed end of the receptacle, said float in tending to rise in the water will hold the receptacle tilted, since the float 36v is moved downwardly below and past the vertical plane ofthe trunnions or pivots of the This prevents the receptacle, when released, from swinging back to depending position and scooping up the greater portion of the water. The rod 34 swings downwardly within the receptacle after the water is discharged, due to the lowering of the float `35, and this will'swing the lever 30 to the position seen in Fig. 2, whereby the link 31 is pulled t0 swing the lever 27 so as to force the plunger 22 and valve 24 against water pressure. The valve is'thus opened, s0 that the water flows past the seat 21 and through the ynozzle 19 into the reand as said receptacle is filled,the

This'will swing the Yrod 34 and lever 30, whereby the link 31 pushes the lever 27 to slide the plunger 22 with it and gradually close the valve 24. is closed when the receptacle is filled. lt will be noted that the float 36 being adjacent to the end of the receptacle which is depressed, will when the receptacle is in depending position, and filled with water, tend to hold the corresponding end of the receptacle up, to avoid accidental tilting or swinging thereof. The receptacle holds the water without the necessity of using a float valve, as usual, for closing the outlet 3.
An adjustable weight is mounted on the rod 34, whereby when the water level is lowered, said weight will swing the rod downwardly by gravity, tov open the valve against the water pressure.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is Y 1. A device of the character described einbodyinlg a tank having a lower outlet, a'tiltable receptacle within the tank, and a float carried by the receptacle in position to be moved below the pivot of the receptacle and past the vertical plane thereof when the receptacle is tilted, for holding it tilted until the water flows therefrom. j
2. A device of the character described embodying a tank having a lower outlet, a tiltable receptacle within the tank having va depressible end, and a float within the'receptacle attached thereto adjacent to said end and movable downwardly past the vertical plane of the pivot of the receptacle.
