fzweziar UNITED STATES THOMAS J. WILSON, OF NEW LISBON, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHURNS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,978, dated J annary 23, 1872.
Specication describing a new and Improved Ohurning Apparatus, invented by THOMAS J. WILSON, of New Lisbon, in the county or Henry and State of Indiana.
My invention relates to improvement in the class of cllurns having reciprocating dashers; and consists in the construction ofthe dasher and the arrangement of guides therewith, as hereinafter described.
Figure l is a sectional elevation of my improved churn, and Fig. 2 is a horizontal section.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Ais a rectangular case for holding the cream, with a broad base, B, adaptedto set on a table or bench, in which case is a dasher, consisting of the vertical stem C, large horizontal arms D, and smaller ones, E, the two larger ones hung to support the smaller ones, and arranged perpendicular to each other, and a suitable distance apart vertically. The arms E are arranged at short distances from each other on the large ones, and perpendicular to each other, and have angular top and bottom sides, for dividing the cream readily in passing through it. These two sets of parallel arms, crossing each other in this manner, are adapted to agitate the cream Vin the most thorough manner, and alike throughout all parts of the case. The lower arms D are notched at the ends and fitted with vertical guides F, on the side of the case, to keep the dasher in proper position, and the stem C is guided at"r the upper end by the cover, through which it passes. The cover is made in two parts, one of which, G, covers about two thirds of the top, and is detachably fastened by the yoke H, hook I, and beam K, the latter shown in dotted lines. The other part f the cover, not shown, simply rests on the top ofthe case, and is provided with a cover for lifting off readily to note the progress of the work.
What I do claim is- 1. The dasher composed of the two sets of horizontal arms D and E, arranged, in connecnection with the stem (l, at right angles to each other and a short distance apart, as shown and described, for the purpose specied.
2. The dasher D E, in combination with the vertical guides F of the case A as and for the purpose specified.
THOMAS J. WILSON.
